What is the significance of the blusher? I'm still debating on whether I want one or not...

For my wedding, after I walk down the aisle, my FI will take off my blusher and give it to my dad as a keepsake. I'm wearing a big hair flower with a few small feathers, so that when the blusher comes out I will still have decoration in my hair
