Is there Any Wiccan Brides?

I'm planning a Wiccan Wedding and need a  little help. I need to blend a traditional  wedding setting with a wiccan one.
It needs to be tactfull (as most guests are not exactly open to it) and tastefull, as I want it to blend and not look like the tradittion was just thrown in there.
I don't know what traditions to add and what not to does anyone have any sugestions? Ideas? Commnets? Looking for insperation I guess. lol.

Re: Is there Any Wiccan Brides?

  • There are lots of brides on here who have incorporated pagan and wiccan rituals into their traditional weddings. I think handfast4me had a pagan wedding, but I can't remember exactly. Obviously she had a handfasting. You posted on the right board, but it tends to be a little slower than other boards, so give it a little while to get some responses. Good luck!

Hello!  I'm (Finnish) pagan, but not Wiccan, and I don't know of any "Wiccan" specific wedding traditions.  I know that unity candle ceremonies and such could easily be tweaked to have a more Wiccan overtone though (especially if you used more specific candle colours or something).  And I know a lot of pagans do the irish handfasting tradition during the ceremony, and some jump the broom also.  Is your FI wiccan too?

My FI is Christian, and as much as I wanted to be married outdoors (which would mean so much to me according to my beliefs) it's going to be way the heck too cold to do so (FI and I could handle it, but probably not some of our guests).  So we're tying the knot in a little chapel.  Essentially, I'm asking that the overtly Christian phrases be removed from the traditional vows (but the minister can leave "God" and other such words in there, since I'm not athiest).  Also, because my FI is Irish decent, we're including this lovely (pagan-ish) insert into the programmes.  From Martha Stewart:

We're incorporating a lot of natural elements into our wedding, though, despite not being able to wed outdoors.  We're planting trees in honour of our guests (as favours sort of) and we also gave young trees to our parents for gifts.  It's an old Scandinavian tradition to plant trees in celebration, and it also meant a great deal to me to be able to give our loving parents a living "growing memory" of our nuptials.

Also, have you tried the Interfaith wedding boards?  I noticed a few pagans over there as well who may be able to help you out.

  • Thanks Guys! Some of your ideas gave me some GREAT ideas and I liked the candle, that's something I never thought of! I sure hope more comment! Btw where are the interfaith boards? I didn't see them in the list.

  • I'm Wiccan, and recently learned this:

The hand binding used in many pagan/Wiccan handfasting/wedding evolved from an old Irish and English tradition where the couple would have their wrists bound to one another for a fortnight before the wedding, to be sure that they would work out differences.

I am considering using it in our Christian ceremony as well (we will have 3 ceremonies: one Wiccan, one Christian/nondenominational, one gaming related).

I'm not Wiccan so I can't speak to the authenticity of any of this, but the website www. offbeatbride. com has profiles on many "non-traditional" weddings and wedding traditions and I believe a lot of them have a pagan basis.  Again, this might not be at all what you're looking for or what your faith is about, but they do have some discussions on things outside of the typical Christian wedding.
