Parent gifts?

I've never been to a wedding before, and I had no clue all the customs traditions and etiquette that goes into weddings. I think I've got it all down now except gifts for the parents. I have no clue what kind of gift you are supposed to give them. Any advice?

Re: Parent gifts?

  • Well, parent gifts are a new thing, not really a tradition, and totally optional.  Our parents are getting an album, but obviously it wasn't ready at the wedding.  They'll get it some time this fall.  I've heard of picture frames, meal/B&B GCs, booze, whatever fits their personalities.
  • My mom is the only parent involved for us and is helping us out a little with the wedding.  FI's mom has passed away and neither of our dads are in the picture.  We are hoping to do something nice for her but arent really sure what yet.  Probably a nice piece of jewerly.
  • You can really do anything for parent gifts. A more old-fashioned gift is to give them hankies for the wedding day. We opted for an IOU on a wedding album.

  • We didn't buy gifts to present to them at the wedding but we did purchase albums for them.
  • Our parents love to travel.  So we are getting them airline gift certificates and luggage tags.
