BLANKET CEREMONY

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone is going to be doing the blanket ceremony as part of their wedding... A friend of mine suggested it to me and I am in love with it! Or if you have done it....or if you have any thoughts or ideas for it.. let me know please!

  • What is it?
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • The blanket ceremony I know is a native american ceremony. It involves the bride and groom each being wrapped in blue blankets to signify all the struggles and lonliness of single life. Then they dance or walk around the ceremonial fire (or drum, depending on the tribe) and shed the blue blankets in exchange for being wrapped together in a white blanket.   Just like any ceremony you borrow from another culture, be reverent about it. Don't just do it to be different. I suggest asking a local tribal elder to either perform or consult on the ceremony. My father is native american, and we may incorporate some elements into the wedding, but only with the right mindset and definitely with reverence, same as we will do with and Romanian Orthodox traditions we may incorporate.
