Sunday Weddings

What do you think of having your wedding on a Sunday? What are the pros and cons? Our venue double booked our Saturday date, and because we are still in college we have to have it that weekend to take a honeymoon over spring break!

So, now we have the option of Friday or Sunday. I don't like Friday because people have to work.

Would having the wedding on the Sunday before spring break be a horrible idea?

Sunday afternoon weddings are okay IMO, but I'm not a big fan of Sunday evening weddings.

If your venue is a church, you're going to want to make sure their services will be finished in enough time to set up/clean. I've personally never been to a Sunday wedding, but I don't really see any problem with an afternoon one.

You could always get married one of the weekends before if you would prefer a Saturday wedding.  A honeymoon does not have to start immediately after the wedding.  In fact, many people prefer to have some time in between so that you can get settled and situated after the wedding, and then have time to get prepared and pack for your vacation.  Personally, leaving on vacation shortly after the wedding would have just been one extra stress that I did not need.

Sunday weddings are fine if you are planning an afternoon event.  However, if you're looking for more of a drinking, dancing, party late into the night kind of event, choose the Friday instead.  Just start your ceremony late enough so that people can still work that day.  You can do pictures before, have your ceremony at 7:00 and your reception start at 7:30.  Good luck!

I'm having a Sunday Wedding. Our religious beliefs prevent us from getting married on a Saturday so most if not all people who share our faith have weddings on a Sunday. We were able to save over $1000 on our venue and savings increase even more if you have you wedding during the week. Some places we looked at, the discount was nearly 50%. The one con is that some vendors may not be open on Sunday and charge an additional fee for deliveries etc.

FI and I are both Orthodox Christians, so our wedding has to be on a Sunday. This is actually quite a blessing since everything is so much cheaper! I would do it. And if it works with your schedule, then do it.

My FBIL and FSIL had a Sunday wedding and it was an evening thing. It kinda stunk because none of us could really let loose and enjoy ourselves since we all had work the next day. It ended early and there wasn't the "party vibe" there. If your not going for a saturday party scene I would pick the Friday rather than Sunday. Its totally plausible to have a 7:00 wedding or 7:30 wedding . Ive been to a couple and have gotten off work just a little bit earlier and still had a blast even with the short timeframe. Sunday weddings are a little bit more reserved to me .But it totally depends on what kind of wedding your going for.

I got married last Sunday at 5pm (the venue wouldn't let us serve alcohol until 5 and it was already included in the price). It actually worked out very well. 

We saved over $2000 on the venue (even on Friday, we would have been spending $1500 more than we did).

Guests were able to fly in Friday night or Saturday and leave Monday morning. Some guests said it was easier to get Monday off than it would be a Friday because so many people ask for Fridays off.

We had dancing, but not as much as we would have had on a Saturday, which didn't bother us because H and I are not really dancers.

It was easier to get the vendors we wanted because so few weddings happen on Sundays (although it is becoming more common since people are realizing the cost cutting factors).

The party ended by 10, since I had family that had to go to work and kids had to go to school, but really, it was the prefect amount of time. We were so tired at the end of the night that if it had gone longer, it would have been too much.

Those were just our reasons. I know there are cons to Sunday weddings, but for us, the pros outweighed them.

Also, if most of your guests go to you school and will be starting their spring break, they may stay later into the night since they won't have classes the next day.

We are having a Sunday evening wedding, however the day after is a federal holiday -- all of our working guests have Monday off.

We're having a Sunday wedding at 2:30pm. We're not serving alcohol. We're also not great dancers, so we're not worried about people not letting loose. However, I think PPs made good points: if you want a really relaxing wedding with tons of part atmosphere, check out Friday night. If you don't care that much, a Sunday afternoon or evening would probably be less expensive and a little more quiet.

My FI and I are paying for everything ourselves and saving $$ to have it at a location we loved was worth having our wedding on a Sunday. The Ceromony starts at 3:30 and the reception is from 5-10pm. Sunday gives people time to get ready to attend the ceremony without having to rush home on a work day (Friday). Also, I am giving guests plenty of notice in case they choose to take Monday off.  If guests have issues with a Sunday they can always decline to attend. Like SWEF said in the PP the pros outweighed the cons.

The same thing happened to us: the church double booked another couple on our day. It was awful. It still upsets me to talk about it! I'm sorry it happened to you too.

Anyhow, we changed our day to a Thursday, but only after calling/emailing most of our friends and family to make sure that everyone was ok with it. Everyone was. We are also saving a lot of Monday, and will have some activities over the weekend with everyon, as we are not leaving for a honeymoon right away. It all worked out. Most of our family and friends have jobs where they get vacation time, personal days, or whatever, and it wasn't a big deal to anyone. I am sure some people will not be able to make it because of the day, but none of those people are ones whose absence woould upset us.

I'm getting married on a Sunday and it is cheaper.
Also- things that I'm finding to be tough are finding  a hair dresser because none are open on sundays and I'm not paying for my bridesmaids, so I highly doubt they'll just open for me!
Also- Booking our honeymoon, we are using timeshare and it was hard to find a place with Monday check in.. probably also because its after thanksgiving.

We're having our ceremony at 2 or 3 we haven't decided yet. Its only a total of 5 hours. So it wont be super late, and people can still go to work on Monday.

I am planning on a Sunday wedding as well. We really don't want anyone staying out too late so it's not that much of a problem that people may have to work the next day. It's good to know that that I may have problems or upcharges from other vendors because it's a Sunday. I suppose that didn't even occur to me since I work in the restaurant industry and we are open  ALL the time. lol Thankfully my sister is a hair stylist so maybe she wont have a problem doing hair even though she's part of the bridal party.

Oh, also it is cheaper to have your wedding on a Sunday. Which is great if you are having your wedding during the "peak" season.

We decided to go ahead and do it on Sunday, but when we told the venue they said they booked that as well!

If we weren't so SOLD on the venue I would have said goodbye and thanks for their time, but we ended up moving it to the Summer because they took half off the price, and we got our Saturday.
