Vows

Has anyone decided on their vows yet? Yes I realize that I am still a ways away from my wedding, the thing is, I want to get as much of it done before the actuall date.

Did you write your vows, pick them offline, or follow the 'traditional' ones?

If you wrote your own vows, did you write them by yourself, together, or did you "borrow" them from some where?

Thanks, Jes

Re: Vows

  • Hi Jes!

Yes, you are a ways out on your wedding date so I wouldnt' set anything in stone as far as your vows go but here's what we're doing.

FI and I decided to do some personal vows and then the traditional vows. I've already got some of mine figured out and I borrowed some of it from the "Hand Ceremony" and the rest I'm not sure what I'll do. I know FI hasn't even started doing his yet. lol
  • We are doing a bit of both, traditional and our own. I just looked online at 'traditional wedding vows' and tweaked them to our personality (i.e. taking out anything religious). Just before we do the rings we're going to say our own, and then, just before the notary pronounces us married, my great uncle, a Cherokee elder, is going to say a traditional wedding prayer in Cherokee.

  • We both wrote our own vows. At first it seemed like a very daunting task, but one morning about 2 weeks ago, I was on my way to work...and I just thought about what I loved most about him and the promises we were making..I thought about this amazing memory I had about knowing for certain I'd spend the rest of my life with him...
and it took less than 5 minutes once I started thinking about all these things..because I knew the answers, ya know?

It will come to you, whatever you decide to do :)
Just make sure when it does you can write it down ASAP =P and to go over it afterwards so you can tweak it up..or tone it down..whatever ;D
  • Our Officiant had a ceremony that we liked and we used those vows.  It was a non-religious ceremony and a link to it is in my married bio, at the bottom under Helpful Sites.
