Bells instead of rice

Since the church does not permit rice, flower petals, etc., my fiance and I think that bells would be a nice alternative.  I'm a music major, and I think having them form a major chord (such as C E G) would be nice, but I have no clue where to find bells of a specific pitch in large quantities for not too much.  Any ideas, or should we just get them all the same pitch?

Re: Bells instead of rice

  • The only bells I can think of that would be tuned would be handbell sized, and having a hundred handbells or so all going at once would be deafening.  If you want to do bells, I would just get the little bitty ones.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Is it a day wedding? - if not.. sparklers are very cool.

Bubbles are very popular for day weddings.

If you want to do bells- maybe just give them to you WP so it is not so overwhelming.  Keep the stash somewhere accessible to grab for the exit.
  • I think having so many bells going would be annoying. I like you ideas so maybe...

Maybe have a few bells (like 10) and have veryone else have bubbles. That way to sound is not overbearing, but you still get some bells in there.
  • Bells were my original choice, but could not find any that were affordable that wouldn't sound like christmas jingle bells. We made streamers out of dowel rods and ribbon instead.

  • I think this is a cool idea. My FH and I also considered this, but be wary of who's going to be present. The reason we decided not to go with this is because really bad migranes that last weeks on end tend to run in his family. We could think of three people on his mother's side who would probably be in physical pain if we rang bells. If you're positive that none of your guests have that problem, it's a really pretty idea, but if you're not sure, it might be a good idea not to do something else. I like PharmacyBride's idea to do bubbles or sparklers for everyone except your BP and have your BP do the bells. That'll definitely cut down huge on the noise.
