Neither my fiance or I are very religious and his mother is constantly bugging us about having a traditional Catholic wedding. When she first found out we were engaged the first thing she asked my fiance was "Are you getting married in a church?" and ever since he said no, she won't leave him alone about it. We plan on having my uncle officate, we are really close and he is like a big brother to me (he got certified online & has done a couple of his friends weddings), when she found this out, she really didn't like it. First she told me “Well maybe a priest could officiate and your uncle could stand next to him” and then she said “maybe the priest could just be up there”. Today,she text my fiance “Her uncle can marry you, a priest can bless it later”. She also told him on the phone that if we don’t change our mind she might not help pay for the wedding. This really bothers me because my family doesn’t have a whole lot of money so without their help we might just have to elope. We aren’t getting married until 7/13/13 so we are hoping she will get over it by then. I have a feeling she is going to also have a big problem with how we will raise our kids, when we have them. My fiance & I are unsure what to do.
