Marriage license question

So I'm coming home to get married, and have a marriage license question.  I want to have both last names, no hyphen - Firstname, Middlename, Maiden, Married.  How can I work this out on the marriage license?

[QUOTE]Is home Louisiana? You need to check the laws in the state where you'll be married. That's not an option here in California. Our forms only have room for 3 names. To do your plan, I'd have to choose between dropping my current middle name or my maiden name.

I'm pretty sure you can put both last names in the last name box with a space.

  • Depends on where you live. Like someone said before; call your state and see their specific laws. At least in Ohio the woman is entitled to take the man's last name. You would just take your marriage abstract to all the places you needed to change the name. Hyphens, I believe, had to go through the probate name change department. I don't know where both names fit w/o the hyphen. (used to work for the marriage license department, but i'm a little rusty in how it works). Whichever it is, call your local govn't and see what it is for your state.

  • It appears to be, depending on your state, just as big of a pain to add a second middle name, but I do think it would be easier in the long run to avoid issues like drama geek had. Certainly worth looking into.
