Siblings left out...

I have a dilemma. My fiance has his two brothers as groomsmen and my only sister is my MOH. My BIL is also a groomsmen and his SIL is playing the piano at the wedding. However, my FSIL  and her brand new husband aren't in the wedding party. I was considering having her read something during the ceremony, but I'm worried it will be super obvious that I'm just giving her something to do because I feel bad that she's not doing anything. Are there any other ideas besides guest book attendant? She's not musically inclined, and she does live 7 hours away, and I'm just kind of lost on how to include her.

  • Reader is actually an honor postion, while guest book attendant is a job, not an honor. If you aren't close to her, then there is no reason to make her a BM. You and your FI, since its his sister, can ask her to be a reader. THere is no reason for you to feel bad about that.

  • ditto sarah:  reader is an honor, but guest book attendant is a pity job that say "I want you to feel included, but I don't know how.  So please stand by the book and tell competent adults who know how to pick up a pen and sign their names to pick up a pen and sign their names."

Is that really the message you want to give your FSIL?  I don't think so.

Ask her to do a reading.  At DDs wedding, they have a close friend who writes beautifully, and she wrote a piece just for DD and SIL that she read at the ceremony.  My sister, DD's fave aunt was the other reader.

"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Thanks girls! I think a reader sounds perfect.
