Help! 2 questions!

#1 Is it the norm to have small gifts for your guests to take away with them at the reception? I thought it was because every wedding that I have ever been to has had them but I have been told by a few important people in my life that they have never been to a wedding and gotten a thank you gift. It is expected of us to provide a little thank you token?

#2 I can't decide if I want a more traditional cake topper, or our monogram. I like that the traditional aspect of a pretty husband and wife figure on the top, but I love the way the monogram looks. I just can't decide. Which one is more over done?

</div><div>1 - are you speaking of favors?  Or something bigger?  FI's family is Italian and they do bigger Italian favors (I cannot spell the word, so omitting for now) but they give a plate or glassware of some type.  </div><div>
</div><div>2 - Go with a cake topper that suits your wedding.  If you love the monogram, I'd say do it!

  • Yea, we are talking about wedding favors. I have never been to a wedding without them so I would expect them at a wedding, but I am also being told (by the people paying for the wedding -- our parents) that favors are not something that everyone expects or gets.
  • Favors are an extra.  I've usually gotten them at weddings, but honestly they're often just junk unless it's some type of food (candy or cookies).  I don't think they're necessary.

Go with whatever cake topper you want!  I don't know which is "overdone", but I think people who are planning weddings are more aware of the "trends" than the average wedding guest becasue we're looking at websites and magazines all the time.  No one will think your cake topper is overdone no matter which one you choose.
  • I would say that while usually favors are present, they would not be missed if you omitted them. I would agree that they are usually junk anyway. Also, the Monogram is very big right now. So, if you prefer it, then thats all that matters! I'm going with the figures because its my fiances preference. You have to do what you want because in a few years when you look back on it, you're going to remember what you really liked not what was "in".

  • 1 - You're talking about wedding favours and yes, they are the norm, but they're not required.  If they're not in your budget, you can cut them, but generally it's nice to give your guests something small, like a chocolate, to thank them for coming.

2 - I don't see many traditional bride and groom cake toppers these days.  But I haven't been to many weddings where they've used a monogram either.  Which suits your wedding better?

Most definitely. Oh yeah, you are from the Catholic board. H actually loved it, too. I just had to have it when I saw it bc it totally went with our wedding. I am just not a fan of all this monogram stuff.
  • The last wedding I went to didn't have favors.  I never noticed.  I didn't figure it out till I started planning my wedding and made a conscious effort to remember the favors at the various weddings I've been to

  • you don't have to do favors but it is a nice gester....if you're tight on money I suggest heading over to Michaels....they have tons of different options...for my wedding one of the favors we're doing is a clear box with silver ribbon with a thankyou note on it and inside the box we're putting a few miniture hershey bars....we bought custome candy wrappers that you can put through your printer.  For about 110 guests we're spending about $60 on favors :) With the help of Michaels weekly coupons of course! lol the only thing I didn't get there was the candy.  Hope that helps!
