Not changing my name

Hi all,

I had a quick but sticky question for the brides who are not planning on changing their name or those that already had the wedding and didn't change their name.

The introduction...you know the part where the officiant says 'It is my privilege to introduce Mr. & Mrs. X' to all the friends and family present.

What did/do you say? I am not changing my name. I  have no problem being introduced as Mrs. City, but I don't want to have to explain later that I am keeping my family name. My FI says the choice is up to me.

Re: Not changing my name

  • Thank you for all of your responses. I am still undecided on what I will do. As of now, I am considering having four names and adding his as a "second" last name. That way I can go as his name socially and keep mine for my professional world. My last name is my identity, I am attached to my name and am having a hard time with the idea of dropping it.

Luckily I have time to figure it out!

<div>FYI, you can go by his name socially and use yours professionally regardless of what you do legally.  I actually know a number of women that didn't change their name legally for whatever reason but use their husband's name socially.  </div>
