Leaving the wedding

We're having a small backyard wedding. We aren't leaving for the honeymoon until the day after and are staying at home the wedding night, but I want a to make a memorable exit. How do I do this if we are coming right back to the house/location of the wedding?
Please help!

Re: Leaving the wedding

  • I'd skip it.  I don't know anyone who had a "dramatic" exit IRL.  Most of the people I know, including the two of my kids who are married wanted to savor every last minute of their wedding receptions, so they were among the last to leave.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • What do you consider a memorable exit?  And since you are going to be staying overnight at the reception location, would you have your dramatic exit, hide out until everyone left and then reemerge?  Sounds silly.
I remember the exits at most of the weddings I've been to.  And they all mostly consisted of streamers or clackers or sparklers.  I've always considered exits to be a sort of 'send-off' for the couple because most guests won't see the couple again before they leave on their honeymoon.  It's a chance for guests to say 'Whoo!  Have fun!"
You're at a disadvantage because you're staying at the house, so like trix1223 said, just skip it.
  • We had planned an exit, but didn't end up doing it.  We were the very last ones there.

I think we're just going to wind down the party.  We're not making a grand exit.  I think it might be more memorable to just kinda hang out with whoever is left and drink and tell stories and when we've had enough, scoot out to our hotel room for the night.

I'm thinking one "grand entrance" into the reception is enough.  I don't need the exit too.
