My FI's family is jewish while mine is Catholic.... both sides are very into their religion. Both of us are not following our parent's religion, he is just non-religious while I am atheist. I wrote our ceremony without any religious undertones or traditions bc it was getting obnoxious trying to make things work that we really don't even believe in...
So, would it be ok if instead of a program(the ceremony is short, like 15 minutes) if I did a little note to the guests explaining why we chose a ceremony like we did, something like:
Aron and I choose to create our ceremony to reflect the 2 of us, our values and lives, and our journey together in the future. We are appreciative that you could join us on our special day!
I know that many people from both sides will be upset/shocked that we aren't doing it "their" way which is why I would like to explain why we did it our way, maybe so people wouldn't be as offended?
