Ringbearer Question (too old)

Is ten too old to be a ring bearer.  We have a flower girl who will be five and a half, but we have yet to find a suitable ring bearer.  One of my cousins, who the FI and I are very close to, will be ten years old when we get married.  Is this too old?

Re: Ringbearer Question (too old)

  • Thanks,
I guess the main thing for me is symmetry.  I'm a little on the OCD side, as is FI, and we want to have a ring bearer for "aesthetic purposes." I know its silly, but hey its our wedding! All about the symmetry! Totally kidding on that last line! :)
  • I guess to add, that we have watched potential ring bearer grow up. So, it would be nice to have him in our wedding!
  • We are having two ring bearers and no flower girl.  Our ring bearers are 8 and 9.  They are excited to be a part of the wedding.  Since they are older, we are going to have them stand up front with the wedding party for the ceremony.  So, if you want a 10 year old and he wants to do it.  Then I say go for it!  If nothing else, call him a miniature groomsman. Whatever you decide will be perfect.  And, there's nothing wrong with just having a flower girl and no ring bearer at all.

  • My ring bearer is a girl - the Girl with the Rings (or Bling :) Her younger sister is going to be our flower girl - or "cupid" as we like to call her as she is the reason we met. I think it comes down to the fact that it's your wedding and you need to have the people, kids and adults, that you need to be there. Laughing
  • Our ring bearer is 8 years old.. and our flower girl is 10. Some may say that's too old, but as my mom pointed out they're both at a great age. They'll be able to behave, and they won't cry or get scared to walk down and need their mom to come scoop them up and carry them down the aisle in front of all the people. Both our RB and FG are excited about their jobs and neither have complained about being "too old". As pp pointed out, if they felt they are too old they would mention something to you and your FI or to their parents.
  • JodiMarie, that is the cutest idea/title!  We are having three flower girls and sorta just threw a son of one my fiance's friends into the job. My FI has a relationship with him, but thinking we could give the oldest girl, his cousin, that job :)
Duh, girls can do it too Cool
  • I went to a wedding last spring where instead of having flower girls, they had flower women!  The women walked down the aisle with a little chinese food box of rose pettels and dropped the pettles...I think there were two women if I remember right...So it really does not matter  It is your wedding, do what you want!  My niece was disappointed cause I thought she was to old for flower girl and gave her the role of candle lighter...but the explained that it was because my fince' has a god daughter that we wanted to include, and told her her job was more important cause she was setting the atmosphere for the entire ceremony.  Now we are looking at an out door wedding, and she might get her way to be a flower girl anyway, cause candles are a little difficult outside.
