Flower girl

Has anyone ever attended a wedding where the flower girl doesn't wear white? I haven't, but I think my niece would look super cute in one of our wedding colors (navy, muted oranges, ivory and dove grey) to look like a mini bridesmaid or whatnot. Thoughts?

Re: Flower girl

  • I haven't personally, but I wouldn't think twice about it if I did see a flower girl in a non-white dress. I would probably go with an ivory outfit if you're doubting yourself.

  • I've seen this a few times and I thought it was adorable. I was a FG for my cousin and I wore a mint green/black dress (same as bridesmaids, but more modest).

  • I have never been to a weeding with the flower girl(s) in a white dress.  They all matched the BMs in color, not necessarily in style.

I don't think it matters if it's white or a wedding color, as long as it's age appropriate.
  • Our FG wore the same dress as the BMs just in the opposite colors.  Hers was pink with a green sash.

I've never been to a wedding with a flower girl -- but I don't really think it matters what color she wears, as long as it is age appropriate (as PPs have stated).
  • Ours is wearing ivory, but they can wear any color you'd like!  They can also wear white/ivory with some sort of accent in your wedding color.
  • I served as FG twice as a kid, never wore a white dress.  As PP's have pointed out, as long as it's age appropriate I think you're ok.

  • I've never seen flower girls dressed as mini brides. When I was a FG at age 5, I matched the bridesmaids in navy with pink floral print (so very '80s!). My friend's FGs had dresses with a white background and floral print that coordinated with the bridesmaids. My FGs are wearing a cute pale purple dress to coordinate with the darker purple my bridesmaids are in.
  • I've never been to one where the flower girl wasn't in white, but when I was little I was a flower girl in a wedding and I wore a white and pink dress. I was actually supposed to be in purple (my favorite color), but saw the white and pink one and liked it more. My mom said they let me try it on to appease me, and the bride liked it better than her original choice. I still have the pictures, and I have to admit, I did pick a good one!!

She can wear whatever you want her to. I think she'd look cute in anything, flower girls always do! Mine are 6 and 7. They didn't care in the slightest what color it was, as long as it "twirled". And believe me, they told me if it didn't.

[QUOTE]Our BMs were in a pale green and our FG was in yellow. It was adorable. Personally, I think mini brides are super creepy, so having our FG in a white dress was never an option.

That's a cute flower girl dress! When I, at least, refer to the "mini bride" look, I'm thinking of the dresses at David's Bridal that are miniature copies of their wedding dresses. They can be floor length, ball gown style.

Yeah, I've seen those too. I can see if you have an older flower girl you may pick out something like that, but for a young one I feel like those are totally inappropriate!

I've been to a lot of weddings where the FGs are not in white dress. and yes, the mini--bride idea is a little creepy so go for designs that would fit the age of your FGs.
  • It can be whatever you want it to be! These are mine:

I'm havin them made in satin in a gold color with a turquoise trim. I also love the tutu look!
