Groom's Cake

Can someone explain what the groom's cake is for? Thanks!

Re: Groom's Cake

  • often times it's also a cake for the groom during the rehersal too.

we had one during the wedding reception, it's something special that my husband is into.  So it gave him something personal to him on the wedding day too.

  • I looked this up once... apparently it was common to give the single ladies pieces of the groom's cake to take home and put under their pillows, and that night they would dream of the man they were going to marry.

But really it's just an extra cake in a flavor and design that the groom will like.  A little something for him because most of the wedding stuff is usually what the bride likes.

[QUOTE]Well, what's the cake that you freeze and eat a year later on your anniversary?

That's just the top tier of the regular cake.

  • I am going to try and get my fiance a groom's cake as a surprise to him!

  • A lot of time your cake baker will bake you a single layer cake that looks just like your top tier for your one year anniversary, our lady is doing that.

As far as the groom's cake goes, yes, it is definitely a Southern tradition. I am from the north orginally and I had never heard of it until I picked up a local bride magazine and that is exactly what it said in there. When I asked FI if he wanted one, he looked at me and said "what's that?" I explained it to him, and he said just a waste of money. We pretty much planned our wedding together, so I know our cake is his just as much as it is mine.
  • Thanks for the info. I am from up North too so maybe that's why I didn't get it. I am having a small wedding so I am going to be left with soooo much left-over cake anyway. I am trying to plan a surprise cruise for him. He thinks we arn't having a honeymoon and he's always wanted to go on a cruise. I think he will like that more than a cake (by the way he is helping me pick that out too). Are you ladies doing a grooms cake. I kind of feel selfish now.

  • We are doing a groom's cake. I am surprising him with the design that I know he will love.

Disclaimer: Please excuse the above comment. I'm probably freaking out because there is less than one month to go. Thank you.

  • Apparently the groom's cake is often served at the rehearsal dinner, or so our baker told us.
