Rehearsal Dinner - Angelos Spagetti House?

Does anyone know anything about Angelos Spagetti House? We are considering using them for our rehearsal dinner. They said they have an upstairs dining room that comfortably seats 50 (which will be our max), but I have never been there, and don't know anyone who has used the room.

Any other Lakewood-area rehearsal dinner venue recommendations are also welcome... we are checking out Times Ten Cellar this weekend (Thanks Amanda!).

  • There used to be a Campisi's type place down there near the theater but I don't know if it's still there.  It was very good though.

  • I've never held a big event there, but I flippin LOVE Angelo's.  It is one of Andy's and my favorite date night spots.

Ideally, our RD would have been catered by them (you can order from their to-go menu at X10).

  • If you want to scoot over to Lower Greenville you might check out The Grape or St. Martin's... they are probably pretty expensive, but holy cow delicious.

Every time FFIL comes to Dallas he wants to eat here. The issue is that he didn't give us a budget for RD, just wants us to take care of it because he lives in Arkansas and really doesn't know the area. While no budget seems really nice, and he is a doctor so he makes a decent living I'm still afraid a) he's going to experience Dallas sticker-shock and b) he's very subtly hinted that if we keep costs low he may chip in for our honeymoon... but this is no way confirmed. I don't even know what he expects.
We don't mind doing budget RD at all, we're nothing fancy, but all of the factors really have us stressing out.

    OK that was a semi-vent semi-advice seeking I guess.
  • LOVE Angelo's- I am a frequent Lunch-er there. I even have the card :) I think Lakewood is great! Especially since a lot of people don't usually see that part of town when they visit Dallas.
I agree with Amanda- St.Martin's is awesome food (albeit a little expensive). If you're interested in driving to uptown- Sambuca's and St. Ann's have wonderful private event spaces.

This was my ILs.  They were shocked by the prices and they didn't understand why we booked a place for our RD (we didn't know they were going to pay at the time but we had hoped) two weeks after we book a place for our reception.  Not only was it Mother's Day weekend but it was the Friday closest to Cinco de Mayo.  Places in Dallas can fill up quickly and we didn't want to be left out in the cold.  There are many days when I still wish we had paid for it ourselves.  Many of our guests didn't live in Dallas or even TX and I wanted them to have some good Tex Mex.  Well, my FIL hates spicy food and we were trying to be accomodating to them.  I liked our RD, don't get me wrong, but I wanted something a lot less formal.
