A regular from E board would like to ask something about Dallas

I'm going there next month.  

Now, we are traveling with one of DH's friends who is from there and DH has been there also.  BUT the both of them have a habit of going golfing and ditching me and his FI.   She has only been to Dallas once herself.

So I'm just wondering if you knew someone who was left to fend for themselves in Dallas what would you suggest to do?

The guys have picked some restaurant options, but I was wondering what you all would suggest.

Do you like to shop?  There are a ton of malls and an outlet mall.

Do you like museums?  There's an art museum, Nasher Sculpture Center, the JFK museum, etc.

There are a ton of restaurants. 

What do you like to do?

ETA: Also there's Six Flags/Hurricane Harbor, The Aquarium, the zoo

Do you know what hotel you will be staying at?  Lunch and shopping was my first thought.  The Dallas Arborteum is really nice to visit in April (if it's not raining).  We have some great spas too.

The last couple of trips we took together were to Boston and DC. We did the historical stuff and that was fun.   In DC we spend an hour searching out a Chick-fil-a because we don't have them where we lived.  It was closed when we got there  .

We will hit up a mall because we don't have them where we lived either, but it's not something we really enjoy.. We normally go just for a specific reason.

We do have some good shopping, that would be my first suggestion too if your DH's ditch you. But, it really depends on what you like to do.

I would suggest the Allen outlet mall if you really want to find some good deals, or if you just want to go to a high end mall either the Galleria or Northpark. 

Ditto PP's about the other attractions. April weather is usually very pretty here

We are staying at the Residence Inn on Stemmons Freeway.  

We are going up for the Kenny Chesney/Zac Brown concert.  Yeah, we are weird and travel long distances to see concerts.

Yes, just don't go on Sunday... that's pretty much the only time they are closed.

We have lots of Chik Fil A here!  There is even one IN Northpark Mall.  Northpark also has a nice movie theater and nicer restaurants as well and higher end stores.  There's a big Barnes & Noble across the street if you like bookstores.

Sixth Floor Museum downtown is probably our most historical spot.  The Dallas World Aquarium is downtown also as is the Dallas Museum of Art.

We have tons of great restaurants... What do you like?

-La Madeline is a Dallas favorite for a fast breakfast/lunch - there are several locations.
-Snuffer's is great for burgers and the best cheese fries you'll ever have - also, has several locations. For a fast food hamburger, try Burger House.
-Sonny Bryan's is probably Dallas' most famous BBQ joint, but everyone here has a favorite. Where ever you go for BBQ, make sure you order the beef brisket, since that's Texas' thing.
-For a classic Dallas steak, try Bob's Chophouse or Kirby's.
-If you want Mexican, I like Chuy's, Uncle Julio's or Gloria's (which also has Salvadorian foods.) Another popular (small) chain is Mi Cocina, or their smaller stores, Taco Diner. For fast food tacos, I like Taco Cabana or try a family owned Taqueria.
-We have a large Asian population, so if you're into authentic Vietnamese or Thai food, don't be afraid of the hole-in-the-wall places.

I want to second pp's suggestion of Northpark Mall. I know you said you're not into shopping, but Northpark Mall is an experience. It was designed by a famous Dallas art collector, Ray Nasher. They have permanent and rotating art and sculpture collections. And as Stephie said, there are great restaurants, as well.

Everyone has given great suggestions!

If you have any interest in spending time with your guys doing their golf stuff, there is a place called Top Golf in Dallas that is kind of a driving range.   I don't have any golf skills whatsoever but it is still so much fun!   It's kind of like a golf version of skee ball where you hit the ball and it lands in all sorts of different rings and a computer keeps track of your score.  

It's also a casual restaurant with full bar service.

Just a thought.

The closest one to DFW airport is on the corner of I635 and MacArthur Blvd in Irving if you want to google it :P

For places I always recommend - DEFINITELY the Dallas World Aquarium.  It isn't your typical aquarium.  It has such a beautiful indoor rain forest. The otters are adorable :P

For food, if you have never been to one, Texas De Brazil is worth the cost.  Its meat.. and more meat.. and a little bit more meat.  There is one close to Revechon (sp?) park which has a beautiful walk in it. There is also one in SUndance Square in Fort Worth (where all the media for the super bowl was).  Sundance has great live music, shopping, etc. 

And obviously, we have the sports facilities.  If you or the guys love football, Valley Ranch and the stadium in Arlington are fun to tour.  Same goes for Baseball!

Try out  Bishop's Art District. They have some cute shops, a soda gallery shop that has every soda you could think of, and a bakery called Cretia's that is amazing!

Galleria also has ice skating. There is also the Dallas Zoo. If you want to venture out to Fort Worth, they have the Botanical Gardens and Water Gardens there.
