So my FI has taken foreverrrrr deciding who he wanted as ushers. He went from just letting the groomsmen do it to letting some of his friends do it to asking some cousins (granted he hasn't asked all these people...he's just thought about it). Neither of us wanted to ask our friends/relatives to "work" at the wedding so it's taken us a while to decide what to do.
Anyways, one of my FI's best friends was killed this past weekend (he would've been next in line for a groomsmen if we were going to have another or 1st in line for usher if we'd made a decision). My FI also lost a very close cousin 4 years ago that would've been part of the wedding in some way. We'd like to honor them as "Ushers in Memorandum" in the program, but my FI would like to do something in honor of the deceased friend and cousin. We thought about lighting a candle or having a floral arrangement to honor them, but my FI wants the ushers to wear something special. He mentioned a "In memory of" button with a picture on it. I mentioned having the ushers have small photo pins (like the ones brides carry in bouquets) on their boutonnieres. I just don't want it to come across as tacky, morbid, or disrespectful.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to go about this?
