No parents coming

Both of my parents are unable to attend and FH's father has passed away. How do we honor those who can't be there?

Also, we want to do a unity ritual at the ceremony but the unity candle and sand has been done so much and normally the moms are involved...I don't want to draw too much attention to the fact that we only have 1 out of 4 parents there.

Re: No parents coming

  • We mentioned something in the back of our programs for those who couldn't be there and those who have passed that we wished to remember. You could also have a rose on 2 different chairs marking their would be spots, light a candle in memory of him, could even be at your reception.

  • I also had a "in memoriam" blurb in my program as well.

As far as the unity ceremony is concerned, you could have a member from either side of the family stand in and perform the lighting of the candle, etc.  Perhaps an aunt, uncle, close cousin, etc.
  • Thanks, those are lovely ideas!
