Corsages to aunts and uncles?

I recently found out that my fiance's family has a tradition to give corsages/ bouts. to all of the aunts and uncles, greats included. I've only seen flowers given to grandparents, parents, soloist etc. His family insists that they will pay for all of them since its their tradition. My problem is that I've got a lot of aunts and uncles, my stepfathers side alone it will be 12. The grand total on my side is 25 to his 10. I don't see my uncles and aunts often at all and I feel while they are family that they aren't necessarily at the level of importance that our parents and grandparents are.  He says they expect to get them and we should just accept his parents generosity, I feel bad because I don't like this idea at all and I find it strange. Has anyone heard anything like this before, what do you think I should do?

well said PP.  And "step" family does not necessarily have to be included.  Maybe just do his side since they "expect" it, but not yours.  How do your parents feel?

My mom isn't crazy about the idea but she also doesn't like the fact that my FI wants a hand in the planning as well.
My step family is coming to the wedding since I haven't seen my dads side in almost 10 years and I've known all of my step family for almost 20 years, so I'd feel bad giving them only to my biological uncles or aunts. We've got a weird family situation, my mom and step dad are separated but my stepfather has been more of a father to me than my biological father, his family has always treated me as one of their own. 
The idea is starting to grow on me a little more since it is their tradition I just feel bad that there are so many of them

If money isn't a problem, I'd say go for it.      People love feeling involved, even if it's in a small way.

If you want to appease your mom, just make hers extra fancy.

Haha my mom would probably love the extra fancy corsage, thats not a bad idea. Thanks a ton guys I apparently just needed to take a step back and look at it from the outside...looks like we'll do flowers for extended family.

I'm as shocked as you are. She thinks its weird and controlling that he wants to like everything going into the wedding as well.  I see it as it's his wedding too and we're going to have to neogotiate more once we're married so we may as well practice now.
