Ceremony Times

Hello!

I'm newly engaged and have just started the planning process. I'm planning my wedding with my mother but we are in two cities 600 miles apart.  We, of course, have different opinions about how things should go.  That's to be expected, I think.

But I have an issue, what is an appropriate time of day to have the ceremony?  I'm protestant and my fiance is Catholic.  I'm also in a very Catholic community so I'm used to Catholic weddings.  I'm unsure of what is normal for a protestant wedding.  I'm used to an evening, not formal wedding with finger foods and liquor at the reception that goes well into the evening.

Mom and Dad are used to protestant weddings that are in the afternoon with a shorter, dry reception.  We're in the process of finding common ground.

What's appropriate?
