Incorporating traditions and adding something new..help!

Hey Everyone!

My fiance and I have some interesting ideas for our ceremony but we are not quite sure how to incorporate them. We were going to have a basic Protestant ceremony but we were thinking of changing the unity candles to the Lasso from traditional mexican ceremony instead for our families. Has anyone tried something like that?
I also heard that in traditional Mexican ceremonies they do something to honor the matriarchs of the families? Anyone know anything about that?

Also I have a daughter from a previous relationship and we want to include her in the ceremony in some way other than just the flower girl. Like maybe incorporating her into our vows somewhere or even giving her a gift during the ceremony. Anyone have any ideas? Its important to us we make her feel special and included since its us becoming a family together but we weren't sure how to go about it.

I only have a comment on including your daughter in the ceremony.  IMO, the purpose of a WEDDING ceremony is to create a husband and wife.  I'm not a fan of children making or receiving "vows" during a wedding ceremony.

Depending on her age, she may not even be developmentally ready to completely understand what "vows" are. 

I'd have her be your flower girl.  And if you want to give her a gift, give it during the RD, which would be a far more appropriate place, IMO.  And at the reception, have a family dance.  Take a zillion photos.  Take a zillion more.

Differing view here!  My new SIL has an 8 year old son from a previous marriage.  He was the "Best Man".  He stood next to his dad, had the rings in his pocket and made a speech.  He was cute as anything.  At her FH request, my daughter did say something to Noah during the ceremony and gave him a hug.  He felt very important, and many people told us that they thought it was very touching.  Of course, they could be lying to me

Thanks for that When I read about it I thought it was pretty touching also. I'm still keeping it open as an option but we are probably going to do a little more discussing with our families and pastor to see what they think.

when my mom and step dad got married i was a junior bridesmaid and they gave me a ring after the ceremony, i felt unbelievably included!!! i still wear that ring and it was 15 years ago
that being said, children can be apart of a wedding just not a necessarily a focal point!
