wedding procession

in what order does everyone walk down the aisle?!

Re: wedding procession

  • We're doing the following (for now, may well change between now and then):

MOG and FOG take their seats

Groom escorts MOB to her seat and takes his place with the officiant

BMs and GMs enter by pairs (half of them are married to each other anyway)

    Best Man escorts MOH

    RB and FG

Music changes for bride and FOB

  • It depends on what kind of ceremony it is.  For example, the Jewish processional is quite different from the typical Christian one.  And if you are doing a secular ceremony, you can use whatever order you want.

We likely will not have any special escort of mothers, fathers, etc.

Once guests are seated and have their water/tea/lemonade and fans (outdoor July wedding!), our plan is to enter the terrace together and great each and every guest.  Once we've said our hellos, we'll make our way to the canopy, where the minister will be waiting ... our attendants will be there too (just one on each side, so no big "entrance" necessary).  Bam!  Done.

ETA: For my first wedding (1992), once the groom and his best man were situated at the front of the church (they entered from behind the altar with the priests -- yes, we had 2 priests), our mothers were escorted in by related groomsmen.  Following that, groomsmen processed up the aisle, then my attendants (a bridesmaid and a best man) followed ... then my dad escorted me.  My dad and I did a kiss at the pew where my mother was seated.  I processed to the altar the rest of the way by myself ... there was no "giving away" ritual.
