Toss Garter vs. Keeper Garter

I tried to research this question in the forum search but I only found other garter related questions.

Do I wear the toss garter and the keeper garter? If I wear both, does FI only take off the toss garter at the reception?

My wedding is more than a year away, but I'm curious.

Thanks in advance!

  • The way I've always seen it (and the way we've did it) was wear both, toss one, keep one!

  • Thank you, that's what I thought. The keeper one can be taken off later. ;)
  • Exactly ;)

I actually took mine off on the way to our hotel that night. It was itchy! A very romantic way to do thing, right? haha

I always thought keeping a garter was kind of weird, so I just have one and if we decide to do the garter toss (still up in the air) it will be tossed and someone else can deal with it.  :)

I guess he could remove both and then stick one in his pocket to keep?
  • The way my family has always done and what we are going to do is wear the garter we are going to keep (its my great grand mothers and all of the girls in our family have used it, its our borroed and blue thing). we wear it on the right leg and the keep garter is above the toss garter, and he just pulls off the tossing garter- so people see both, but its not confusing to the guy which to throw.
It's not a must to have both, or any- its just a fun tradition!

  • I had 2. One was a tossing one, the other I kept. Some come as a set. Mine did not, I bought them seperately b/c I found one that I loved and matched my dress. The tossing garter was one of my "something blue" items.

That's how we did it as well!
  • In my family, my mom makes 2 garters for the bride, a nice ornate one with blue beads for something blue to be worn during the ceremony, then a toss one to be worn for the toss. I would feel uncomfortable wearing both at the same time, but I guess you do what feels comfortable.
