Skip tradition?

So I've already decided to skip the traditon of giving favors-there are just too many food allergies and a lot people are flying in from out-of-state. I've looked at updated versions of the guest book, but I'm thinking I'll just skip that too. I mean, I already know who's going to be there right?

Re: Skip tradition?

  • If you don't really care about a guest book, then skip it.  It's not "mandatory" or anything.  As you said, you'll know who's there because you're inviting them.  If you're counting on remembering who you saw, though, I promise that you won't.  The day will be a very quick blur when you finally have the time to stop and look back on it.
  • Skip the guest book.  It will just gather dust.  Skip the favors, too!
  • I'm planning on skipping the guest book too.  Since my parents are paying for the wedding and inviting mostly people they know, I don't know probably a third of the people invited.  If I don't know them, then I'm not going to care if I have their signature.

  • I agree that both of those things can be easily skipped at a wedding, especially if you are on a budget.  I doubt any of your guests will notice.

  • I was going to skip the guestbook, but then I found this in Pinterest and loved it. (Just thought I would share the idea incase you liked a guestbook alternative...)

  • There are a lot of interesting alternatives to traditional guest books these days, if you do want something for guests to sign.  My future SIL had a photographer take polaroids of all the guests.  They pasted them into an album and the guests signed and/or left a message next to their picture.  It made for a very cute album.  There's the idea of having everyone sign a photo mat, then framing it along with a wedding picture.

Personally, I'm leaning towards something I saw on Pinterest, which were index cards that you file in a card-catalog style.  Guests can write little messages as well as sign their names.
