A video during unity candle ceremony

Since the lighting of the unity candle is supposed to symbolize the joining of our two families, I thought about playing a video that consists of pictures of me and my fiance as children all the way up unitl we met during the unity candle ceremony. I have been to numerous wedding where the couple plays a 3 or 4 minute song and stand there awkwardly staring at each other after they light the candles. With the video playing I think it would take some of the awkwardness out of standing up there doing nothing..any thoughts on the use of a video?

Re: A video during unity candle ceremony

  • When we lite the candle, it took only a minute, so I don't see there being enough time to play a video. Nice idea, but not enough time.
  • We had a song, lit the candle, signed our marriage license, and took communion.  We chatted for the last 30 seconds to 1 minute of the song, and that's my favorite part of the whole ceremony. We didn't live together prior to the wedding, so I asked H if he wanted to spend the night and make a fort :-P

You could do a video, but as a guest I think it'd be awkward...do I watch them or do I watch the video?  Also, you can't get too many photos in a standard song.  Most photo videos use 3 or so songs.

Are you having a religious ceremony?  Perhaps having the congregation sing a hymn during that time would help.  it alleviates the standing around thing and hymns can be very short if you just do the first verse and chorus.
