Luxury Weddings

Introduction-Hi, Ladies!

Hi Ladies!

I've been on here for awhile, reading articles, finding idea and following the posts, but never really got into posting myself because I didn't have much to share. Not to mention Pinterest came around and took all of my wonderful 'free time.' Now we're only two months away!! I cannot believe it!

My name is Jessica and my fiance is Stephen. We are 26 and 30 respectively. He owns and manages a restaurant in the Minneapolis suburbs and I am a Marketing Communications Coordinator at a law firm in Minneapolis. Our wedding date is October 27, 2012 and it will be just a month past our three year anniversary. I love that about our story!

After getting reacquainted with the knot, I realized we were planning a 'luxery' wedding. I still don't know how that happened, being that I'm from a small town is Wisconsin. I've always dreamed of living in a bustling city with a successful career and a happy family, but I'm still a small town girl at heart that likes to go out to the farm to help out or play sheep's head after dinner with my family. Sheep's head is a card game, in case you didn't know. ;)

We have invited 303 guests to our wedding. With the 20% rule we are hoping only 240 (ish) come and since many of our guests are out of town, we already know of a few that can't make it. There is room for all 303 guests, but originally I wanted a smaller wedding of only about 100. (We have large families.) We are having an simple interfaith church ceremony, as he is Catholic and I am WELS Lutheran. The wedding party includes; six groomsmen, six bridesmaids, two ushers, two personal attendants, a ring bearer, and two program attendants. I still wish we had a flower girl. ;( FFIL and my sponsor/Godmother are both doing a reading at the church. My mother and grandfather (maternal) are walking me down the isle, as I am not close with my father-but he is coming to the wedding-o.h. j.o.y.

Between the ceremony and reception we will rent a party bus for the wedding party and their dates-because I hate being the date of someone in the wedding just hanging out all day! The reception is going to be so much fun! We have passed appetizers and an open bar for the cocktail hour-hoping we can keep the open bar all night but we'll see. (At $2,000 an hour, that is a little ridiculous I think.) We will have a caesar salad, FI and I loooove our caesar salads!, a sorbet course and then filet of beef, prosciutto wrapped chicken and a canalonii (sp?) for entrees. (Plus chicken tenders, fries and fruit for the kids.) Then for the desert we are having cake, cupcakes and everyone gets a chocolate covered strawberry. Plus our late night snack will be a candy bar, possibly an ice cream station per the FFIL. His family loves the sweets!

We're going on a mini-moon to Las Vegas-our favorite couples vacation spot! We try to go a few times a year, but we don't do the party clubs-that'a for the ladies trips. Instead, we see shows, gamble in the mom and pop casinos and eat a lot of really good food.

The honeymoon will be in February but not sure where yet.

Oh wow. It honestly all just hit me as I wrote all that...#1 I can't wait to marry this man! and #2 We're having a massive wedding. Oh jeez.

Anyway, that's me! I hope to hear from you all and continue to bounce ideas off each other for the next few months!

Jessica

Hi, welcome to the board and congrats on the plans! This is possibly the slowest board on TK... which is too bad!
Vegas is also our favourite destination, it's a very emotional place for us, we enjoy going immensely every time.

We had our dream luxury wedding last year and are now planning a 3rd anniversary vow renewal in Italy. So I'm basically a re-knottie :) Our guest list is set under 80 guests and the venue TBD as of yet, which is why I'm so looking forward to my trip there next month.

Enjoy the rest of the planning!

  • Welcome! DH and I had our "luxury" wedding December 6th, 2011 at Ashford Castle in Cong, Ireland. I use the word 'luxury' loosely because the only thing "luxury" about our wedding, I think, was the venue (www.ashford.ie). We definitely splurged in that department. Our overall budget was under 15K including engagment rings, wedding bands, flights, 2 week honeymoon in Ireland, a wedding coordinator and all other wedding day related expenses. I think we did pretty good.

Happy planning and I hope to hear more about your wedding :)

  • Welcome to the board :) I know what you mean with numbers, but sometimes it works out! We invited 300, and its looking more and more like we're going to be around 150 for the big day :)

As the ladies said its a little slower here which is too bad, but the ladies here are so nice and welcoming :)
  • Welcome!

I just returned from my wedding, which I wouldn't necessarily classify as luxury, but as far as destination weddings go, I would say it probably ranks up there (~$30K I think when all is said and done, not including the e-ring and wedding rings.) Especially since it was a wedding for two! I originally joined this board because I had been married previously and had the big, traditional, expensive wedding. Back then, The Knot didn't have a luxury weddings board. It would have been nice if they did because it wasn't always easy to share my ideas, plans and budget. This board is a really great place to share without judgement regardless of costs.

  • Ohh, Ashford is beautiful! (I realise this thread has been quiet for the last year, but I had to comment!) We are doing something similar - we're not having what I'd consider a "luxury" wedding, because we're renting this lovely castle in Dublin, but we are not having a traditional wedding structure, so it's basically a ceremony and meal for about 40 and then a big party for about 150! We don't do open bars in Ireland - you'd bankrupt yourself! - but other than that it'll be a typical party. I'm really excited :)
