Christmas cookie poll

Stina's off dealing with her crazy relatives and I'm in the midst of a baking frenzy, so it's poll time!

What Christmas cookies did you get as a kid?  Who baked them?

Who bakes your Christmas cookies now?

What's your favorite Christmas cookie of all time?

Are you baking this year?  What's on the menu?

Fudge, yea or nay?
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Re: Christmas cookie poll

  • What Christmas cookies did you get as a kid?  Who baked them?  My mom did the cookies.  We had spritz cookies, a couple of kinds of walnut cookies, chocolate coconut cookies, thumbprints, and chocolate coconut dreams.  She was a machine during the holidays.

Who bakes your Christmas cookies now?
Since the family has scattered to the winds, we've all kind of made them for ourselves.  My mom gave us each a recipe book a few years ago that included the Christmas cookies.

What's your favorite Christmas cookie of all time?
Chocolate coconut dreams!  They're basically teeny coconut sugar cookies with chocolate melted on top.  Creamy ooey goodness.

Are you baking this year?  What's on the menu?
Yup!  I've finished the spritz cookies, almost done with the walnut crescents, and about halfway done with the magic coconut cookies.  I'm going to be mailing off cookies to everyone in the family along with their Christmas card and gifts.  (They have to go out today, so I need to hustle.)

    Fudge, yea or nay?
Absolutely love the taste of it.  I've never tried to make it myself, but I've heard it's extremely tricky.

  • What Christmas cookies did you get as a kid?  Who baked them?

i don't know what they're called but we got these puffed dough w/confectoner's sugar on them that were made by the neighborhood nonna. since she passed i have to go to arthur ave to get them, but they're just not the same. no one in my family is a baker, so we don't really make them ourselves.

Who bakes your Christmas cookies now?

the old school italian bakers on arthur ave. i'm a cooker, not a baker. i've been working on the baking thing.

What's your favorite Christmas cookie of all time?

anything that's gingerbread or chocolate. can't go wrong with those.

Are you baking this year?  What's on the menu?

i actually do want to bake this year but i'm not sure what to make. i found an interesting idea for chocolate mint cookies but i'm a little nervous about the baking idea.
    Fudge, yea or nay?

hell yes!!!! i don't make it myself as it's hard but i do get it usually. my father lives on cape cod and they have great fudge up there so i get it from there.
  • Aerin, you read my mind! I started the baking for all of FI's extended family and our building concierges yesterday.

What Christmas cookies did you get as a kid?  Who baked them?
Decorated sugar cookies and chocolate crinkles from my mom and grandma. And one of my BM's moms would always make all sorts of cookies every year and give some to us.

Who bakes your Christmas cookies now?
    I do!

What's your favorite Christmas cookie of all time?
Probably the decorated sugar cookies, that just says Christmas to me.

Are you baking this year?  What's on the menu?
Definitely am. Sugar cookies, chocolate crinkles, lemon bars and toffee in industrial quantities - 1 batch of toffee and the chocolate crinkle dough are done, I'm doing a bit more each night.

    Fudge, yea or nay?
I've never made it, but I like to eat it.
  • I'm glad I wasn't the only one who spent the weekend baking!  I'm definitely starting way earlier next year though; it cost over $150 to ship all the Christmas packages to my family!  I nearly had a heart attack.  Good thing I have all these cookies sitting in my kitchen to console me.
What Christmas cookies did you get as a kid
We usually had sugar cookies, turtles, fudge, whatever else my mom decided to make. Also, we would always go over to my parent's friends house the day after Christmas and they would also have lots of goodies! :)
Who baked them?
My mom.
Who bakes your Christmas cookies now?
My siblings and me sometimes will get together, or just do them on our own.
