Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it?
Yes.  I started cooking with a lot of butter in the month that followed and practically lived at the gym starting the next month just to get back into my clothes.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love:
True Compass by Ted Kennedy and Man of the House by Tip O'Neill

    An overrated movie:
Avatar - I felt like I was watching Dances With Wolves set on another planet

    An overrated book:
    The entire Twilight Series

  • Julie & Julia? No and probably won't. It's not my style.

Biography or Autobiography that I loved? Not sure...I can't remember reading one that was very memorable.

An overrated movie?  I agree with Avatar

An Overrated book?I defiantly agree with Twilight

  • Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it? Yup, I thought it was okay

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: Chelsea Handler's My Horizontal Life

An overrated movie: Marley and Me, the book was far better- the movie seemed choppy and went by WAY too quickly

    An overrated book: Twilight!

  • Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it? I did like it a lot. Meryl Streep is a brilliant actress.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: Hmmm...I don't think I really read biographies and such. So I can't really answer.

An overrated movie: Napoleon Dynamite. That movie is sooo stupid.

An overrated book: Maybe it's not necessarily overrated, but on the vein of Julie Powell's books, I hate Cleaving. Hate it. She wrote it after Julie and Julia. It's about her cheating on her husband. She uses butchery as a form of "therapy". It's the most vapid, miserable excuse for writing. She pretty much humiliates her husband and the guy she slept with. You just want to scream, "TMI, woman!" I really dislike that book and I've pretty much lost all respect for her as a person because she is just so flippant with important life matters.

  • Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it?  haven't seen it

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: I read one about Alexander III a few years ago.  It was pretty good.

An overrated movie: Fight Club.  booooring.

An overrated book: Poisonwood Bible.  Worst rec I ever got.  It was horrible.
  • Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it?Own it, and I bought the cookbook. In fact, I'm making coq au vin tonight! Wish me luck!
A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: I'm reading "My Life in France" right now which is Julia Child's book. All about her making the cookbook and the struggles she had with moving in the Foreign Service. It makes me super hungry!
    An overrated movie: Avatar,
An overrated book: A Million Little Pieces by James Fray!

  • Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it? Nope. I wanted to, but I heard it wasn't that great and decided to save my money.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: "Cash" by Johnny Cash. My brother sent it to me and insisted that I read it. That book is amazing, and I recommend it to anyone. His story is captivating and it is written with such ease.

An overrated movie: On the "Cash" note, I'm saying "Walk the Line". Joaquin Phoenix didn't look or sound anything like Johnny Cash. There was also around zero story arc in that movie. Johnny Cash's biographies are so much better than that movie would have you believe. I did not understand all the fuss.

An overrated book: Book seven of the Harry Potter series. I felt like the end of this huge story that I'd been reading since 7th grade until my final year of college wrapped up into this neat little package of lame. I was superbly disappointed. For a book series that matured into dark and epic fantasy themes, it sure went the My Little Pony/Care Bears route in the final chapters.

  • Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it?  It was on my list, but I never got to see it.  Would still like to eventually.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love:  Schindler's List is a good read.

An overrated movie:  I would say Avatar, but I haven't actually seen it.  So I'm going to go with The Graduate.

An overrated book:  Aside from my Twilight hate, I'll also mention The Lovely Bones.  It spent like a year on the bestseller list and everyone was positively crapping themselves over it, and I read it and was left completely unmoved.

I'll second Lovely Bones, the first few chapters were pretty good and now I'm finding it really hard to finish cuz it just drags on and on.

The movie is even more atrocious, if I were Alice Sebold-I'd be pissed! Almost Moon and Lucky are good books though :-)

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor...it's Bruce Campbell's autobiography and it's flippin HILARIOUS!!!
    An overrated movie: Napoleon Dynamite
An overrated book: I don't really know...I won't read something that doesn't catch my interest so I can't really determine what's overrated...I mean, yes, the Twilight series leaves much to be desired, but it's written for teenagers, not adults...

  • Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it? I saw it.  It was okay but I wasn't a huge fan.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: I don't really read them unless they're fictionalized autobiographies.  I really liked The Things They Carried, and I'm curious about which bits of it are autobiographical and which are fiction.

An overrated movie: Ditto everyone on Avatar.  I liked the movie, I just didn't think it was epic or anything super, super original.  It seemed like a mash of other sci fi/fantasy movies plus the 3D.

An overrated book: The Shack.  The first chapter was promising, the rest was jut not terribly interesting at all.  I don't usually skim books but I'm pretty sure I skimmed at least half of that one.

I think that's a bad excuse.  I couldn't even get through a chapter of Twilight.  It's embarassing-never-completed-fanfiction bad.  I've read plenty of YA and children's books that weren't that painful.  Harry Potter was written for a younger audience than Twilight, and though it's by no means perfect, it's far superior to that drivel from a literary standpoint.

Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it? Never saw it.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: Henry VIII = crazy dude.

    An overrated movie: AVATAR

An overrated book: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote.  I literally HATED it.

EDIT: I liked a Million Little Pieces until I read that most of it never happened.  Then I hated it.  I also really liked the Poisonwood Bible.  But, seriously, The Lovely Bones lovers can take a hike.

I haven't watched it.  It's in my Netflix Instant queue, but I've never gotten around to watching it.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: I really don't know. I'm sure I've read one at one point, but it must not have been very interesting because I don't remember.

    An overrated movie:
I'll jump on the Napolean Dynamite train.  That movie is way more fun to quote than it actually is to watch.

    An overrated book:
I'm not a frequent reader so I usually only read things that I know I will like.  I never go out and buy a book because I've heard good things about it.  It's usually my brother giving me a book and telling me I will like it.

Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?" Did you like it?
I wasn't feeling really well on Saturday and DH was at work all day, so I set up camp on the couch and watched a bunch of On Demand movies, including most of this one. I really liked what I saw, but right around the time where Julia and her husband got into the fight about the blog making her too self-absorbed, I wound up dozing off. I didn't wake up until DH walked in the door, and the credits were rolling at that point. I'll have to make time soon to see it all the way through.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love:
"Audition" by Barbara Walters (I just love Barbara Walters ... when I was 9/10 years old, I actually idolized her)

    An overrated movie:
"Avatar". I saw "Fern Gully" as a child, and played Final Fantasy X two years ago ... I honestly feel like the whole plot and visual concept were ripped off from those two things. And the fact that there's a sequel in the works is making me stabby.

    An overrated book:
Anything written by John Steinbeck ... I really don't get why his works are considered "classics" ... I love reading and will give pretty much anything a fair shot ... but his books just aren't that great. Pretty much every year from grades 8-12 we had to do a unit on Steinbeck in English class, and I always loathed it.

Also, I could seriously spend days talking about how the "Twilight Saga" is an absolute blight on the written word.

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: I really liked this book called "Es Cuba: Life and Love on an Illegal Island," which is about the American author's life in Cuba and how she falls in love with a Cuban. Clearly I can relate, plus I want to go to Cuba sometime.

An overrated movie: Please do not all hate me - Up. I liked it, but I'd heard it was THE BEST THING EVAAAAAR, and I didn't think it was.

An overrated book: Crime and Punishment. I had to read it in high school and hated it.

More on the subject of over-rated books, I worked in a bookstore for 4 years ... I saw my fair share of "WTF?" as far as the Best Seller List went. And the power of Oprah ... oh, God, the power of Oprah.

I was there during the whole "Million Little Pieces" debacle, and honestly, I wanted to stab James Frey after Oprah called him out. You wouldn't believe how many people came in trying to get their money back: people who had bought the book weeks, months, some even over a year before, because they felt they had purchased the book under false pretenses . Like I could even understand one or 2 wackadoos trying to find a loophole, but seriously, alone, I turned away 50+ people.

I guess one of the most important things I learned in my book-selling career: do not piss off Oprah.

At present, DH is insisting that Avatar is not just Pocahontas for boys.  He's convinced that it's epic.
  • Have you ever watched the movie "Julie and Julia?": Nope

A biography or autobiography that you've read and love: The Six Wives of Henry the Eighth.  Six wives, one king, three surviving children, no waiting. Will in the World, a biography about Shakespeare, was also excellent.

    An overrated movie: Avatar

An overrated book: Something Borrowed.  I can't believe so many people enjoy it.  It took what was an interesting idea and just completely botched it in the execution.
