Groomsmen with no jackets?

The wedding will be indoor/outdoor in June 2010. > The Groom will be wearing a suit and now we are deciding what the three groomsmen will wear. The color of the wedding is eggplant so we were thinking of black pants with a black vest with a deep purple shirt underneath and a tie. What do you think? Is it too casual?

Re: Groomsmen with no jackets?

  • I personally don't like the look of the vest w/out a jacket. My FI is wearing a suit w/ a white shirt and a colored tie. The GM will wear suits as well but the color of their shirts will be the color of FI's tie and the GM will not wear ties. My BM's are in t-length dresses.

  • IMO a vest without the jacket is a very unfinished look.  If you want the guys in black pants, then I'd have them wear a black suit, white shirt, and either an eggplant or eggplant and black tie.If you aren't going quite as formal and want a more summer look, then I'd have the guys wear a tan suit, white shirt, and eggplant or eggplant with another color tie.
  • Agree that no jackets is very unfinished, especially if the bridesmaids are wearing something more traditionally bridesmaid-y.  And all of those dark colors seems very heavy for a summer wedding.  Traditional "etiquette" also says that the attire should be adjusted for the time of day, but some say that's kind of old school.Check out tan suits or dress pants and a jacket, all of which can be done at a reasonable price.  You could also check out a lighter, complimentary color for ties like lilac or lavender.
