I posted this a little while back on chit chat, but I have to give the credit to WP for this one. I was having a discussion with FI's grandmother. We were talking about FI's career after graduation (Army Officer) and I said something along the lines of, "After Joey (FI) and I get married so and so will happen." Here is the conversation that happened after that statement...Grandma- "If you don't do a JOP wedding you are crazy!"Me- "Why do you say that?"Grandma- "Because if you do a church wedding then it will HAVE to be Jewish."Me (being very confused at this point)- "But I'm not Jewish"Grandma- "Everyone in the family has had a Jewish wedding, and you know Joey (FI) is Jewish."Me- "Uhh... OK.. I'll talk to FI about it... BTW, try this bean dip... It tastes FABULOUS!"Just to clarify some things, FI considers himself "ethnically" Jewish, but not religiously Jewish. FMIL and FI's bio dad are both Jewish, he doesn't and never has practiced. He and I both are Protestant. All of her daughters had Jewish weddings except FI's mom, who had a JOP. I mentioned this conversation to FI and he laughed at the thought of a Jewish wedding. We both want a Christian wedding, so at least we are on the same page.I say thank you to the WP board, because this situation would have turned into a sh!t storm if I didn't quickly change the subject. Thank you all for giving me an out to that conversation. Your advice really does work...
