Matron of Honor

My fiancee and I decided to have my step-sister and my step-brother-in-law in our wedding. I would like to make my step-sister my matron of honor, whereas, my brother-in-law would just be a groomsman. Is it ok that they don't walk together and that they are paired up with someone else? Thanks!

Re: Matron of Honor

  • Yes.  But be open to the idea of them walking together in case they're uncomfortable with that.
  • The procession doesn't really matter. Totally fine unless it becomes a problem. Normal adults should be fine walking with a stranger for 15 seconds, but if they start b!tching about it, just let it go and let them walk together. It really isn't worth the headache. We had the GM wait up w/ DH at the altar and the girls walked in solo. That's also an option if, for some reason, this gets out of hand.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • They're just walking with other people in a wedding, not going on a date. Nobody's going to think that your step-sister is having an affair with the Best Man if they walk together for a 30-second processional. If the two of them have a problem with it, then you can absolutely work something out. But I think they'd be nuts to be offended by having to walk with someone else. I would nix the Wedding Party Dance, though, if you're planning on doing one. Or at least let them dance with their own dates instead of their walking partner.

  • It's fine.  DH was co-BM in BIL's wedding and I was a BM.  I walked with someone else as did DH and it was fine.Just don't make them do any WP dance!!
  • I wouldn't sweat it unless they bring it up.  If one or both does throw a hissy fit about it (not unheard of), then you may want to rearrange things slightly just to keep the peace.
This is a neglected planning bio.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
