So my best friend and I are both engaged and talking to each other about planning our weddings. We talk constantly even though we're on different sides of the country. I am planning on asking her to be my maid of honor because she's the closest person to me and has supported me through thick and thin. Well we were talking about her wedding party and she can't decide who she wants to be her MOH bc she's not close to anyone where she lives and then she asked me "why can't you live closer?!" What does me living closer have anything to do with being a maid of honor? I'm thrilled to be a BM and I can't wait for her to be my MOH but I was a bit upset that she doesn't want me as her MOH bc I live too far...sigh I might get flamed for this but I had to get it off my chest.

Maybe this is her way of saying that she doesnt' think of you as closely as you do of her.

I agree with you. I would be hurt by that comment too. That sucks.

She has insinuated (sp?) that a couple of times--she asked what was going to be expected of her as a BM (haven't told her I want her as MOH yet) and I told her all i wanted was for her to pick up her dress, walk down the aisle, stand w/me and have a fun night. I don't think anything else is necessary.

I know it's probably small consolation, but at least you know she'd *want* to make you her MOH if she wasn't buying into the "jobs" you'd supposedly have to have.

I agree with others who say that she probably expects the MOH to have duties other than just wearing the dress and showing up. You might have dodged a bullet if she is looking for a part time servant in her MOH.

If it's any consolation, based on the statement, you may be happy to not live so close to her.  :-)And FWIW, I do think it's fine to say, "This is what I can do," when a bride starts requesting outrageous things of her BP.

Ditto PPs, sounds like she's been conned by the wedding industry with all this "Your MOH needs to be by your side 24/7 and running errands for you and stuffing envelopes!" B.S. Tell her how great the Knot message boards are and then send her to the Wedding Party board

I think she feels that the MOH should be there to help her with tasks or go shopping with her...  Not just moral support by phone... just my opinion
