Wedding Party

Pregnant Bride/Moh

My BF and I are getting married 6  months apart from each other. We are also each others MOHs. She just found out she is pregnant. She and her FI have decided to still go with plans to get married April 24. The baby is due the third week of May. Her,her Mother and I were wondering about her getting a wedding dress. So does anyone know  of any places that might sale materinty wedding gowns or If she finds a dress can it be altered to fit like marternity dresses do? Or do you ladies think that she should just have one made since she will be 8months pregngnant.I'm just worried she might have to settle on a dress because of her  circumstance and I don't want that for her I don't think any one should have to settle for a dress that they don't feel is the one. Also she will be about 8 months pregnant at the six month mark before my wedding so how long after she has the baby should we go shopping for her dress for my wedding.

Re: Pregnant Bride/Moh

• I do not know of specific places that sell maternity dresses, but she could consider doing a certain style, like an empire waist, that might work. My sister will be 8 months at my wedding and that is what we did with the BM dresses. One problem with that is that if this is her first child, she doesn't really know how she will carry or how much weight she will gain and where. With my sis, we knew exactly how/where she would carry and how much weight since it is her third child. She could try calling boutiques and asking about this. Some might have a pregnancy pillow that she could put on to try on dresses to see how each style might look. I would try to give her as much time after delivery as possible before placing the order for her dress for your wedding. Again, she can't really know at what rate she will lose the weight. If in doubt, order too big because it is easier to take in than to let out. Also, try to pick a simpler style so that alterations are easier. Something with a good deal of gathering is more difficult to make drastic changes to.
• What about a dress with an empire waist? There are some beautiful styles out there- I notice pregnant celebs always choose them at awards shows. She could order a larger size and have the top altered to fit her chest. Sunny
• Here's the dress that Pam wore on the wedding episode of The Office, supposedly being five months pregnant. Maybe something flowy and empire-waisted like this would work: http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49995498&currentIdx=45&subCategory=-49999486|-49995498&catentryId=6097267&sort=As for your wedding, maybe consider letting her get an off-the-rack dress a few weeks beforehand, either in your wedding color or the other wedding color or in neutral black/champagne/silver. That way she has a better idea of what size she'll need, instead of ordering a salon dress blind. Plus, lots of people have their MOH in something different anyway, so even if people DO care that she's in a different dress they'll likely just chalk it up to that trend.

• If you google "maternity wedding dress" there are a lot of options. Try http://www.maternitybride.com/ They have some beautiful options! As for an empire waist regular wedding dress, this might work. But keep in mind that her boobs will probably get bigger during her last trimester, so if you go this route, order larger in the chest area and have it tucked under the arms in the weeks before the wedding. With a first child, you tend to loose weight more quickly than with subsequent kids; I was back in my "normal" clothes (except for bras/tops because I was breastfeeding) within a month of giving birth. I had extra weight, still, but it was distributed in areas that still worked with me getting my pre-pregnancy clothes on. If she feels good 2 months out, you could try to find something then. If not, I agree with pp about getting something off the rack. Keep in mind that if she is breastfeeding, her style might be a little different (to accomodate a nursing bra.) But see how she feels once baby is here and she is getting more than 3 hours of sleep at night:)
• my MOH will also be 7 months pregnant at my wedding, and we chose an empire waist dress for her as it is a bit more forgiving and is somewhat stretchy.  so it kinda flows with her belly as it gets bigger and we don't have to worry about her belly outgrowing the dress.  good luck!
• I went to David's Bridal once and they had a small pillow you could strap around your waist to try on with gowns if you were pregnant. She could check out Davids, or even take a small pillow shopping with her for trying on dresses.
• A friend of mine was also 8 months prego when she got married. She found her dress on Ebay for under a hundred dollars! It was beautiful, it was like an empire waist one. I would encourage her to look there.
• she could shop the holiday party dresses this winter to find a dress for her wedding & go shopping for your wedding the beginning of september. the later she waits to shop the better the dresses will fit.
• I think it's nice that you're concerned for her, but if she decided to go through with her April wedding, she's probably not worried about "settling" for a dress and is more focused on some bigger issues (like, um, she's having a baby!), and is more concerned with being married when she wants to be married. One of my bridesmaids is pregnant with twins and is due 4 months before my wedding. My bridal party and I will probably choose something a month or two before my wedding and have them altered from there if necesary. I don't think bridesmaids dresses make or break a wedding, and there are thousands of styles with which I can be flexible. I'd rather not rush her while her body is changing and recovering. I don't want to be rude, but I think you worry a little too much about details. Regarding your friend's wedding, those details are more her business than yours. Taking on the stress of another person's wedding is not going to be good for you. You should really talk to her about this, and not a group of strangers. Don't you think?
• Alfred Angelo sells specific maternity bridesmaid dresses in plenty of colors!...I don't know about bridal gowns though.
• I disagree with the poster that says you are too concerned about her. Its very sweet that you want her to have a wonderful wedding and feel beautiful and special in her gown even though she is going to be 8 months pregnant! I hope you can help her find something great on the sites the other girls suggested. My sister in law's MOH was 8 months pregnant at the wedding, and wore this dress from David's Bridal- http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49998974&currentIdx=65&subCategory=-49998976%7c-49998975%7c-49998974&catentryId=6097279&sort= And she looked absolutely gorgeous. The empire waist style is a great idea. Good luck!
• My sister will be 6 months pregnant at my wedding and we waited until the last minute to buy her dress (the last day that David's Bridal said was acceptable, although I'm sure we could have ordered one later and been fine... everything came in about 2 weeks even though they said we needed to order it 4 months before).  We went for an empire waist that was loose below the waist band.  She ordered a size too big and will have to have the straps taken in to pull the waisteband up over her belly.  It looks super cute, though (and the color is watermelon... watermelon belly!).And two of my other maids recently had babies, one having just given birth before we ordered the dresses and one who was still very pregnant when we ordered.  The one who had just given birth waited until the last day suggested so she knew a little more about the weight loss and the one who was still pregnant used the "just wing it" technique.  Her dress was pretty tight, but it worked out that one of my other maids ordered a size too big.  They swapped and it worked out perfectly.  I would say just try to pick a dress that can be forgiving in the mid-section and butt areas.
