Junior Bridesmaids

Is it ok to have more than one Junior Bridesmaid? And do they have to be paired up with a Groomsmen or can they walk down the aisle together?

Re: Junior Bridesmaids

  • You can have as many BMs and GMs as you want. They don't need to be paired up at all, whether they are regular BMs or junior ones. I'd be hestant to use the title "junior" for anyone over 12, though. Teenagers are constantly reminded that they aren't quite adults yet. All a BM must do is show up, clean and sober, in a dress, walk up the aisle carrying a bouquet, and smile for pictures. If the girl can do that, there's really no reason to label her as a junior, and she'll probably be happier to not be singled out for her age.
  • A junior BM is the same as an adult BM. Only differences are that they might need a more modest dress, and they probably shouldn't be attending the bachelorette unless it's rated G. Yes, you can have as many young BMs as you want. No, there are no rules as to who must walk with whom. People can pair up with someone half/twice their age, they can walk in same-sex pairs, they can triple up (maybe one guy can escort two ladies, or two guys to one lady), or they can walk solo. Completely your call. And you do not need to round up a random young groomsman to even out the wedding party and give them an escort their own age. People will not assume that an adult man is dating a teenage girl just because he escorted her in a wedding for 30 seconds. No worries!

  • I had 5 Jr BM and 2 Jr GM.  Although I just called them BM and GM, no juniors

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • It's fine to have more than one junior BM.  As PPs said though, I think it's best if you just call them BMs if they're all in the same attire.
  • I was a junior bridesmaid when I was 15.  I had no problem with the title and honestly felt it to be appropriate.
  • I am having 2 junior bridesmaids...I am just having them walk together
  • My 13 year old cousin was a bridesmaid in my wedding, and my 20 year old brother escorted her out... because they both were more comfortable with that. Despite the fact that she was younger than all the other bridesmaids, she was still a bridesmaid, and she loved every minute of it.
  • I agree... junior bridesmaid is a cheesy title. You can just have more than one flower girl. I have 9 neices and I don't know how on earth i am going to be choosing which ones to be in the wedding.. I am expecting hurt feelings and i HATE that. One of them that I am having for sure, will be 16 by the time I am married, and i'm just considering her one of the bridesmaids. Although, I will have her ride with her mom, since there will be drinking in the limo. So there are some lines that need to be drawn, but really, if they are teens, they sound just be bridesmaids.
