Making the MOH stand out

Hey girls! What are you guys doing to make your maid of honor stand out? I want her to feel special! TIA!

Re: Making the MOH stand out

  • She's the one standing closest to the bride, therefore she stands out. That's all we did with my MOH. I've been in weddings where the MOH wore a different dress, had a different bouquet, etc.

  • My MOH wore the same dress as the other bridesmaids. She was the last one down the aisle before me and stood next to me.
  • Her bouquet will be slightly larger, just because that's how my florist does them.
  • I hadn't heard of putting the MOH in a different dress until the Knot.  I think that most people make her bouquet slightly bigger, or make it look more similar to the bride's bouquet.  (My bouquet will be black and white, I haven't decided if all the girls will carry black and white bouquets, or just the MOH.)

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I've seen the MOH get a different dress, or the same dress, different color. I'm not doing anything "different". Mine will be the last one to walk in and she'll closest to me during the ceremony. Also, she might be put in charge of FI's ring (We have an RB ... but we don't actually want him holding the rings, long story).

  • I didn't. My sister was just next to me during the ceremony and listed in the program as a maid of honor.
  • As of right now, I'm picking a bridesmaid dress that has a sash. (I've only looked at them online so that could change) so if we go with that dress my MOH will wear a different color sash (for BM the sash will be the same color as the dress)

  • I just had her carry a smaller version of my bouquet and all the other bms had bouquets of one type of flower. That's it.

  • My BM dresses are orange with a red sash, and we thought about having the MOH wear the same dress with the colors flipped, but she decided she wanted to wear orange. She will probably get a different bouquet though.

  • Since my wedding will be in the spring, I am having the bridesmaids wear short dresses, and the MOH a long version. They will all have the same color and same bouquets though. I don't want it to look too different, just slightly. My friend did something cool. Hers was in the summer and we all wore the same exact dresses. On her MOHs (her 2 sisters) she had them wear a large flower in their hair, and had a different color ribbon on their bouquets, it was really noticeble but not drastic.

  • I am looking for some kind of sparkley broach or pin to put on my maid of honor and matron of honor's dresses. Our BM dress is really pretty and simple that it will be that little piece of extra to make them shine without standing out too much.

  • I have 2 bridesmaids and 1 MOH. While all 3 of the dresses are the same color (Turquoise) and fabric (Chiffon) the styles are different. My MOH dress actually has embellishments on it that are similar to my dresses, and also has a few bead/buttons that the BM's dresses don't have. Her bouquet will probably also be slightly different. These are subtle things, but I think they stand out enough to those who care.
  • This just kind of happened by chance, but my MOH will be wearing a pashmina with her dress - she picked the dress out and it's the same as the other BMs, but she wanted something covering her arms. But it will certainly help her stand out. Otherwise wouldn't have done anything.
