  • I think Disney weddings can be very beautiful, but I have a hard time thinking of anything other than Mickey! NO! I don't know why but Disney land/world is not the place to get frisky in my opinion. LOVE THEM!!!! I grew up on them.

  • I LOVE the disney parks, but I'd never mix my wedding with it.

  • Weddings: If the Disney "theme" is too heavy then they usually look ridiculous. I've seen many a classy, pretty wedding turned into a joke by too many Mickey or Cinderella references floating around. Something like a cake topper is fine, but centerpieces and invitations and other stuff put them over the top. Honeymoons: fineMovies: Some are good, some are awful.

  • 1- Fine for others but not my cup of tea at all. I am all for going to Disney and acting like a child, etc.. but that is SO incongruent with being mature enough to get married, IMO. 2- If that's what you want to do, go for it. Still, not my preference to be surrounded by kids while trying to have an adult moment with my new hubby. 3- I loved them when I was younger. I am not so into animation now.

  • 1) I think they're kind of cheesy. The whole coach with white horses... it's just too much. Certain elements can be good though. 2) When DH and I went to DisneyWorld a few years ago, we saw lots of people on their honeymoon and we both were strongly in agreement "no way." for us it was not what we wanted on our honeymoon, waking up early every morning, standing in long lines all day... We wanted a relaxing honeymoon without a schedule. Hello Cancun. 3) I think there are a lot of really cute Disney movies, but I think lately they've gotten some pretty weird ones. Sometimes I worry about what I'm going to have to watch if I ever have kids...
  • 1) Totally Cheesey   2) Wouldn't do it myself but I do love amusement parks so I see why people do it. There's tons of parks down there.   3) LOVE
  • I don't have a problem with Disney weddings or honeymoons, though they're definitely not MY style. The honeymoon especially, I'd totally go back to Disney World with H just to hang out... but to spend my honeymoon at a theme park with hordes of screaming children? Nuh uh. As for Disney movies... well, my favorite movie of all time is The Jungle Book, so that answers that.
  • 1) If they are done tastefully (Which I've seen a lot of them that are) then I approve. The ones that are blatantly "chock full of theme" are awful 2) FI and I are having a Disney HM. We were pretty sure that we weren't having any kind of HM for a while (Budget reasons), but we were able to stumble onto a really good deal, we really love it there ... and also Aunt Flo is due to be in town during that week, so we're not really going to be able to have "sexy time", so a "romantic" place would have turned out to be a waste this time ... plus, we're staying in a Pirate Suite, which some people think sounds ghastly, we think it's totally awesome. 3) I love them, but I'm kinda sad that they're all CGI nowadays. I want to the The Princess and The Frog just to support the cause of bringing back regular animation. ... and now everybody on the board thinks Meg is an even bigger dork than before, lol.

  • Another deciding factor in going to Disney for the HM is we're having it the week after all the kids go back to school from winter break (The upside to getting married New Year's Day, lol), so the parks SHOULDN'T be AS full of screaming kids.

  • What do you think of Disney weddings? Not my style, but if that's what someone wants...I had a friend in college who did a Disney wedding - all of the songs were from Disney films:  A whole new world, etc.Disney honeymoons? Not my style either, but I know people who have done it.Disney movies? They're ok.  I prefer live action to animation, though.
  • What do you think of Disney weddings? Cheesy.  I don't care how you do it.  If you are using a corporation that isn't paying you as a theme, it is cheesy.  Disney honeymoons? Weird.  Why would I want to spend the most romantic vacation of my life walking around a crowded park with 39842321 sticky, screaming kids running around?Disney movies? Still cheesy, but at least I get the point.  Cool if you are 8.  Do you see why I'm not having kids?
  • Once again, the ever-wise Stage is right. Any theme can turn tacktastic really quick if moderation isn't exercised.

  • Full disclosure: I spent three years working at Disneyland, met FI and several of my closest friends there, and still hold an Annual Pass.  So you know, I'm biased. What do you think of Disney weddings? As long as they're not overdone, fine.  A good friend of mine had a Disneyland themed reception, where the main focal points were these fantastic sculptures she made that each evoked one of the attractions, and the escort cards were the old A-E tickets.  Not a character in sight, it was really classy and still got the point across.  (Once you start slapping characters on things, it's cheese-tastic.) Disney honeymoons? Depends on when you go.  I've long held that a trip to Disneyland =/= relaxing vacation, so if you're looking to relax and enjoy each other's company, not the place to do it.  That said, we'll probably stop into the park for a day or two after the wedding before we head back to work, because Cast Members spoil the hell out of newlyweds.  (We also don't feel the need to try to do EVERYTHING in one day because we can go whenever, so hanging out in the park is much more laid back.) Disney movies? I was practically raised on these, and they still hold a special place in my heart.  I'm so glad they're is getting back into fairy tales, musicals, and hand-drawn animation.  Between John Lasseter and Bob Iger, the company is heading off in some very interesting directions.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Meg: Not sure which resort you're visiting, but the week after New Year's is always the lowest attendance week of the entire year for both coasts.  Disneyland usually has something like 70,000 visitors on NYE and about 10,000 on January 3rd.  I went to WDW a few years back the first or second week of January, and we didn't really wait in line for anything.  It was glorious.  (Just be prepared for some major rides to be closed, because they use the slow seasons to do maintenance.)Also, be sure to get the "Just married" buttons, and maybe even spring for the bride and groom mouse ears.  Our friends got us the "just engaged" buttons and the mouse ears one day when we were hanging out in the park (well after we got engaged), and we were showered with front-of-the-line passes, and not just from the CMs we knew.  You may feel a bit silly, but you'll definitely get some perks out of it./Disney nerding

  • I have a friend who I could totallly see having a Disney wedding. She's obsessed and essentially has the maturity of a 12yr old. She readily admits this. My FI wanted to do a Disney HM until I told him that in June there would be lots of kids there. I also said I'd rather go somewhere where I wouldn't have to wear anything more than a bikini. He liked that better. I love Disney movies!
  • Disney weddings: lame. (which is fine for some) Disney Honeymoons: lame. (which is fine for some) Disney Movies: Love. (but I'm sorta lame) :)

  • Aerin, we're going to Orlando (We're actually road-tripping from NJ ... I actually love driving there, I know, I'm weird, lol). This is the first time we're actually staying ON Disney property (My family always stayed just outside the gates ... which always knocks a few hundred dollars off most stays, lol. FI and I went last May and we did the same thing to save money), figured that if we can't "splurge" on the HM, we're never going to be able to justify it (Which is also why we sprung for the fancy meal plan ... yep, we're being total "tourists" this time, lol). We had a feeling that HM would = special treatment, so we planned on getting the buttons and the mouse ears . We're also telling every single person we talk to about reservations and whatnot that it will be our HM. I'm so excited!

  • Oh duh, Aerin, forgot the where: the Carribean Beach Resort ... we went looking online at the different places. We're so lame that we were "sold" on this place when we found out we could "upgrade" to the Pirate Suite (Which if you check it out online, the Pirate rooms are actually nicer looking than the regular rooms). Ok, so any illusions Meg had of being "cool" on this board have officially been shattered, lol.

  • That's exactly our justification for looking at the nicest hotels in Vegas: this is pretty much the only time we can justify spending that much money on a vacation.  (I've heard that the meal plan is actually a really good deal, though.  Haven't tried it myself, I've only been once.)I started writing up my tips for a stress-free Disney vacation, but it was getting longwinded and I was threadjacking again.  I'll page you with it.

  • I have to say, DH and I toyed with a Disney honeymoon or at least a 'romantic' vacation. There are ways to do it so that you're mixing the 'kid in you' with the adult in you.  They also have the food and wine fest which I'd love to do with no kids - or go to with grandparents who will have a kid night while the hub and I are off to eat lots of cheese.
  • Disney weddings: Comes across as immature in 99% of cases. Case in point: http://www.partyblock.cceasy.com/CasPage1B.cfm?prev=1&TempPrev=0&blnPreviewRequestSubmitted=0&recordsperpage=12&CompletedOrder=0&sBasketID=0&sEnsembleCode=CasEns00403&FromHome=1&Search_intTotalSearchLevel=1&Search_strInputString=1cinderella&Search_strInputKeywords=1cinderella&Search_strItemGroup=&Search_blnAccessoryCategoryPage=0&Search_blnSingle=0&alogo=1&menu=none&morethanonepage=YES&HostDomain=www.partyblock.cceasy.com%2F&FirstTimeThrough=1&option=CasPage1B.cfm&format=DS1CasEnsDT26. Wedding or 6 year old's birthday? Disney honeymoons: Thumbs up Disney movies: Love them but I think they explain a lot of the princess complexes we see on this board. BONUS: Disney bach parties: YES! My BMs took me to Disneyland for part of my bach party and it was great.

  • What do you think of Disney weddings? I've never actually been to a Disney Wedding so I can't really say but I'm sure that just like a wedding anywhere else, if it's done right it would be beautiful. Disney honeymoons? FI and I went to WDW two years ago so we're not ready to go back in the near future. If we hadn't just been we'd consider it. Disney movies? Love them, especially Lady and the Tramp and the Little Mermaid.
