Follow Up to Tide's Post - Coming Soon to the WP Board!

Ladies I apologize that Retread and I haven't had a chance to post this yet.  Tide is absolutely correct, there will be a change in the format and it will be coming soon to the WP board. The format will be very similar to The Nest for those of you who have posted there.   Among the things you'll be able to do:-Edit posts-Add Emoticons-A PIP feature (no more codes to remember!)-Private Messaging-QuotingA few things will also change such as:-No online indicator -You can't delete a thread after replies have been made-Ability to sort by most recent reply rather than the most recent thread. There will be a few other changes as well.Tide, I'm glad that you posted the news as well but ladies, I'd like it if you can respond to any questions in this thread.  I'll leave it sticky for now so we can continue the discussion at the top of the board.  Any questions you have will be brought to the mod board. Thanks!

Re: Follow Up to Tide's Post - Coming Soon to the WP Board!

  • Also, I neglected to mention that banning will be different.Previously a ban was temporary @ just 3 days.  Now if you are banned, it's permanent.I love this board but discussions can get heated.  Please keep that rule in mind.
  • I've heard it's going to be pretty similar to the Nest's setup, but will it have the same issue with cutting off the ends of longer usernames?  That kind of makes things hard to follow.  Also, the Nest doesn't have the separation between someone's post and their sig, which can get confusing sometimes.I've been on other sites where the mods had the ability to lock a thread that had gotten out of control rather than deleting it.  I think that would be a much better solution, so that we don't have to keep typing out the same responses over and over.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Why the change? Why no more 3-day bannination?

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • As far as banning goes, will the policy also change in regards to the report button?  Presently, if you get enough "reports" you automatically get the 3 bay ban, which may or may not be reviewed prior to going into effect.  Is there a mandatory review process, now that the only ban option is permanant?

  • I've brought your questions TK.I know that the banning feature will be changing.  I'm not exactly sure of the details but the aim of the design is to be better than the current system.
  • Excellent question, Tide.  I'm okay with perma-ban if someone really earns and deserves and is not "set up".Of course, I could be bitter.

  • Is there going to be the box within a box type of replying that you see at the Nest?  Because I find that gets confusing.

  • Do you mean the quoting feature? That box within hopefully keeps things cleaner so we can understand one another a bit better.
  • It only seems to get confusing if you quote someone who quoted someone else.

  • True.  Well, hopefully there will be few instances where that is needed.
  • Yeah, I'll probably still copy and italicize.  It's very easy to read.

  • I'm definitely glad that there can no longer be DD's.But now I'm terrified of perma-ban ... I've never been banned, I don't think I've ever said anything "ban-worthy", but I do know people get vindictive and hit the Report button when they just don't like somebody.

  • Meg--I have that concern too. Especially since I was banned once and still have no idea why. How can you avoid it if you aren't told what it's for? Kind of seems to defeat the purpose of it. Someone floated the idea recently of including an email why--seems like this would be a good time to implement it if ppl can just get banned immediately.

  • See, never before did I really "fear" banning, because I knew there was no way I could ever get perma-banned (What could I possibly say to anybody to constitute that?), and a 3-day didn't seem bad because I figure in that time, somebody's going to figure out I mean nobody any harm around here (And I can live 3 days without TK, lol). But now that there's no cushion, I'm just paranoid it might become a "shoot first, ask questions later" deal. I think some people need to go (I know of the Tabs saga), but like how Leah recently got banned for that Head Table thread (Where the one girl kept SAYING "Oops! I just reported you!" in every other comment she left), that didn't seem like something to get even the 3-day over.Although, I can see how easy it is to "accidently" report somebody, as I have had Comcast crap it's pants on me and the next thing I knew, I had reported Stage ... and then she wasn't on like that entire day after I did it, so I was convinced I had gotten her banned (And felt awful about it). So like, does this mean that maybe TK will also make "reporting" a little more hi-tech (Like an "Are you sure?" option, or a "You must tell us why you hit this button" thing)?Yeah, we need to be kept updated on the new rules.

  • Now I'm skeered of getting perma-banned!  I almost want to create a back-up account or something just in case.OMG, I'm ridiculous.
  • Stage, I felt so bad, because it happened in the post where you pretty much paged me to say I was awesome. And it's like "Crap! She said I'm awesome, so I got her banned! Now WP's going to turn on me!", lol.
