Sweetheart Table

Re: Sweetheart Table

  • And japow, you're welcome. And be sure you eat at your cocktail hour/reception too. Don't let anyone stop you. Trust me, if you sit & eat, they'll come to you.
  • DH lives in CA, I'm moving to CA for 3L, and we're both from CA and *hate* the northeast, therefore I must take the CA bar .

  • Well... break a leg! (Oh, and in my other post that should've been "done it," not "don't it," obviously. Not sure what that was about.)
  • 3rd year was by far the best year...  But, law school in general sucked!  I think the entire goal of those three years is to break a person's spirit and self esteem.  Pretty successfully done to most in their first year.Good luck on exams!  MPRE is a cake walk - take the free BarBri review...  But, definitely sit for the MPRE early just in case you need to take it again!  I had a classmate who couldn't get sworn in until after he had passed the MPRE.
  • Am I twisted that I actually liked law school for the most part? If anything, I think I gained some backbone. The reading was grueling, but trial ad, appellate ad, internships, and a lot of my seminar classes - I loved, loved, LOVED the debate. The part I didn't love, as of about a year & a half in, was living in Brooklyn.
  • Planning to do the MPRE this summer. I've decided to not even think about the bar until the time comes. I don't want to believe I only have a 67% chance of passing. Overall, though, I am really enjoying law school--we have an amazing faculty and I've made great friends. It's probably the happiest T20 law school you will find. But I won't lie, the last couple weeks (and probably the next four) have been very trying.

  • Larissa - yes, I think by definition that makes you twisted.  And, after lurking around here for a couple of months, I would never have known that you liked anything debate related (where's that dang sarcasm font??)Brooke - good luck with the exams, and seriously, don't even bother to think about the bar until the June and July before you take it...  I promise you, very little of what you are doing and learning in school is going to prepare you properly for those three days of fun!  I will say this about the bar exam, I too was worried about the percentage passage rates.  Then I realized, as I was sitting around eating lunch during the bar exam listening to other test takers talk about the exam, there were some not so bright individuals sitting for the exam with me...  you only have to be smarter than a third of them!  I listened to a group of 5 people talk about that really hard "real property question" on the first day...  too bad it was a really straighforward contracts question...
  • It's true - percentage rates mean nothing when you're in the bright part of the class! Honestly, it's mostly stamina. Don't worry about it now or you'll burn out. Face it when you have to, push yourself through it, and you'll be fine. Christy, you made me snort (me & debate). Ha, when people ask me what I do for a living, I ask them - quite honestly - "Isn't it obvious?" :D
  • Stamina - exactly!  Its funny, I am getting ready to sit for the PE (professional engineering) exam in April (3 weeks before my wedding - boy I planned that one well!) and I keep hearing about this grueling exam from fellow engineers.  Subject matter wise - its going to kick my patooty, but length wise, seriously??  only one day???
  • LOL! Funny how it all becomes relative. I did the NY/NJ bars together so I had 3 days too. 18.5 hours. But I hear CA is 3 days on it's own and it sounds terrible. Why? I did 3 days. And a one-day exam? Ha. Cake. Of course, I'm old & tired now. No freakin' way I'd ever take another exam. I'm a NY/NJ lawyer & that's that.
  • Am I twisted that I actually liked law school for the most part?I think its cool.  I totally dug law school.  It was a heck of a lot better than actually being a lawyer.  Don't worry about the bar.  Every time I walk into court, I meet some moron with a bar license.  Seriously, I don't understand how these people managed to get a drivers license.  Yeah, Cali is one of the hardest, but still.  If they can do it, you can do it.
  • Oh yeah, the bar is definitely the furthest thing from my mind :) Thanks for the encouragement!

  • Yes. I'm so sad that I know that.

  • So as we're moving up to 60 I have another question. If you were in a wedding party, in Michigan, in December, how would you feel about taking a few outside pictures at a nearby estate? Is it a little ridiculous? Should I just leave that sort of fun for FI and I?

  • I would *not* be happy to have to take photos outdoors in Michigan in the winter. Then again I've lived in CA most of my life so I've become one of those people who can't handle cold weather. However, I'm originally from the the UP so hopefully that gives me some street cred in answering the question.

  • I was in Michigan in December once.  It was a miserable experience.  I wore every item of clothing I had and wouldn't go more than 3 feet away from the fireplace the whole time.  So, if I were in your WP, I would say no.  But assuming your friends live up there and have more tolerance to cold weather than someone like me, it could work for a short period.  I would see exactly how cold it is that day, and ask them how they feel about it.
  • I too am from CA and hate the cold but I think as a BM (which by definition means the bride is one of my best friends), I'd give you 5 minutes of freezing cold pictures. Not 6 minutes, and you'd damn well better have a jacket and something hot to drink waiting for me right away, but if you can get your dream photo in a couple shots I could suck it up for that length of time.
  • I was thinking I would buy them all faux fur wraps and boots to try to keep them(semi) warm. I might just leave the "planned" outsite pics for FI and I.  I don't know if I have the heart to ask our friends for planned pictures in the freezing cold and snow. I'm so bridal party clueless the more I think about things. Outsite pictures sounded so pretty when we booked our date. Now it sounds like such a bad idea to ask our friends to do that.
