FI wants a girl in his WP..

My FI wants his 4th attendant to be a girl that he's been friends with for a long time - which I have no problem with - she rocks! I just don't know how to "Dress" this. Does she wear the same color as the groomsmen to distinguish herself? Or should she wear the same dress I choose for my bridesmaids?
I've already decided to just have each attendant walk down the aisle on their own - that way there aren't two girls walking by each other after all the others are boy/girl. If you have any other suggestions, that's awesome.

TIA!

    Sounds awesome!

You can do the attire colors a few different ways. You could just have the groomswoman wear the same dress as the bridesmaids but stand on the other side; you could have her just wear a black dress (or whatever color the groomsmen are wearing) of her own choosing; or if she has a sense of humor about it she could wear a tux or suit like the rest of the groomsmen.

As for their entrance, there are a few options. The one you said is fine...I've heard a lot of people do a weave where they switch off where one attendant from the bride's side goes, then from the groom's, etc. Personally, we are having the groom's attendants wait up in front with the groom and the bride's attendants will then walk in unaccompanied.

  • I would ask her to find a nice black dress, ora dress to match whatever color suits the guys will be wearing.

I must admit, I saw this thread and shuddered, I was thinking the worst. Thank you for not confirming my fear.

  • Haha! I'm glad I didn't make you mad :)
I think the WP should be who's been important to the person they're representing.

I do think I'll go with having her wear the same color as the groomsmen - she'd probably be okay with a tux BUT I WON'T! I don't think I could handle that :)

  • Assuming the men are in black tuxes (please correct me if I'm wrong), she could wear a black version of the same dress your BMs are wearing. Or a black dress of her choice - just specify the length if you want.

If she's the type who would never wear a dress and prefers pants, she could wear a nice feminine pantsuit (Ann Taylor has nice ones), and a pretty blouse that matches the color of the BM dresses. I don't think she has to wear pants JUST because she's on the groom's side ... just pointing out that pants can be a dressy and feminine option for female attendants who would just not be at all comfortable in a dress.

Ask your FI what he thinks. If she's his attendant then he should have a say in her attire. Also, talk to his friend and see what she thinks. Maybe she has an idea that you would like.

  • Addition to my original post:

This is all assuming that you have asked your fiance and the groomswoman what they had in mind and what they are comfortable with. When it comes down to it, your fiance and his attendants get to choose their attire, while you and your attendants get to choose their attire.

  • My FI has a girl in his WP too. My bridesmaids are wearing dark blue dresses and the groomsmen are wearing black tuxes with a red tie/boutonniere (sp?) so we will have her wear a black dress with a red sash. I think its going to look really nice.

  • Your FI and his attendants choose their attire but I'd go with something in black for her.

  • I think all of these ideas sound really great!

I just wanted to second the suggestion to talk to the groomswoman and see what she is comfortable with.  I know if it was me, I would prefer to wear the same dress as the bridesmaids because I would be uncomfortable if I felt like I stood out amongst the rest of the bridal party.  But everyone feels different, so I'd just check with her.

  • My FI is having his sister as his 'Best Person'...

Our solution (subject to change) is that she will wear the same dress as my bridesmaids (they are wearing light blue) but she will wear black to match the tuxes. And then we are thinking of having extra material from the bridesmaids dresses made into a sash, so she will match both perfectly!

I cannot take credit for this idea, one of my H.S friends on Facebook did this two years ago...

  • MY FI and I are doing the exact same thing. I have a guy on my side and he actually has 2 girls on his side. The girls on his side are wearing the exact same dress as my bridesmaids... instead, we are wraping the bases of their boquets differently. Otherwise, we are going about it just as if they were 'normal' bridesmaids.
