Oh No

The kicked-out pregnant BM was in the email, wasn't it?  Can't the knot gods get a bit more current about this?  They need to stop putting in threads that died 2-3 weeks earlier.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.

Re: Oh No

  • The knot's "what's hot on the boards" email.  I have it blocked as spam.  But when lots of brand new posters come, all commenting on the same email, it's usually because of that.  Oh I wish banana was here to shut it down like she did the last time it happened.  Now that damn thread is going to be at the top of the page constantly for the next couple days.

  • I know, it drives me insane that they do that. I just ignore the old threads and let newbs have their say.
  • I think they stopped sending me those e-mails after my wedding day passed.

I have my thread view sorted as to most recently created, not most recently commented on so I never see when old threads get resurrected.
    image
  • Yeah, so do I, I guess it just irritates me that they pick something so old and it pushes out newer threads.  Plus 75 pithy "it's your day" responses are enough for an eye-forkin'.

  • Frau Frogie- I stopped getting those emails after our wedding date passed, too.

I can only assume since the email went out we'll probably have an influx of new people posting. Pleeease let them be sane and reasonable. Please oh please oh please.

  • To be honest...the way I got started on this board was because of one of those e-mails.  It had a thread from this board about head table vs. sweetheart table seating, and it was something I was interested in, so I read the thread, and liked what people were saying (the regs, not the newbs) so then I stuck around.

So maybe we'll get some good people out of the e-mails too.

  • It is such a damn mess over there.  And if you look at the last page, almost everyone is on their first post.  And the advice is beyond terrible.  A girl is complaining that her BM was actively trying to get pregnant while assuring her that she'd make it to the wedding.  Am I the only person who thinks a permanent child is more important than a maybe-permanent marriage?
  • I just hope the ratio is closer to for every 10 cool people there's 1 who's a little crazy but willing to be talked down from the, "It's my day!!!!" ledge.

  • The last time this happened (few weeks ago) not a single sane newbie posted, and eventually banana got so irritated by the quality of the replies she shut it down.  Plus the OP was long gone, same as here.

  • I just skimmed through; caitybug is a real winner in the new thread (basically telling OP she deserved what she got), but even other newbs are calling her out, so there's hope.

  • What about the girl that's posting "I have diabetes.... pregnant women can have seizures... the bride is really caring about the health of the baby".  If I saw this girl in real life I'd throat punch her.

  • I dunno, are these grounds to cut off a thread?  Banana implied in the past that it needs to get out of hand and the OP being gone (or at least that's what she said when she killed the last one).  I hope squirrly comes by and does so; I'm just saying I don't know if we should get our hopes up.

@jagore: Too many "winners" in that thread to give them all their due.  I'd want to smack her too.

  • It just pisses me off that too many of these girls are practically calling pregnancy a disability.  I don't know of any OB doctors giving out those disabled persons stickers for their cars.

  • Gotta say, impressed with the crop of newbs on that post; I totally stand corrected.  I think it's the nature of the post--people who get intrigued by the "BM is complaining too much" post are more likely to look into it further if you think a BM needs to put up or shut up, while people who get intrigued by "Kicked out pregnant BM" are more likely to have perspective about the situation.  Just my theory.

  • Whenever I see that a thread has suddenly acquired 50+ posts overnight, I immediately stop checking it to keep the stabby at bay.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Ooh ... that witch on CC. I seriously want to punch her. I feel sorry for her cousin!

I understand that when teenagers have sex, they risk getting pregnant, so they don't get my full pity when it happens ... but at the same time, I could never fathom saying (Or even thinking) to my cousin, sister or anybody "Well, since you got knocked up, I can't accept you anymore".

  • I was stunned by some of the posts.  I'm naive, I guess, but it is beyond my ability to comprehend that anyone would tell someone that they couldn't TTC before their wedding.  I am hoping that some of those newb posts are AE's that thought it would be entertaining to try funning us a little.

On the plus side, there was encouragement in that several newbies are not at all BSC and clearly understand what does and doesn't matter.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I'd say the ratio of normal newbs to BSC newbs was something like 20:1 on that thread, if not higher.  Very heartening.  I knew we weren't the crazy ones!

  • I'm sorry ya'll, I had to jump in on that. That Caitlyn chick is BSC. She honestly thinks her friends should put off having a baby so they can be 100% "present" (aka get drunk with her) at her pre-wedding parties. Ugh. I wish TK would stop with the stupic newsletter.

Although, like Frogurt, that's how I ended up posting here.
    image
  • So, I finally waded through the "kicked out pregnant BM" thread. I have to say, I'm fairly impressed with most of the newbs that came out of hiding for that one. I really hope most of them stick around.

However, I really hope Caitybugupherass really meant her GBCK. What's the bet that when she herself gets pregnant, she'll be pissed at her friends for getting married, like "How dare they expect me to go to a bach party! I'm pregnant, that's way more important than their stupid wedding!".
