    I'm getting my puppy today....SO
    Jealous!

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds?
I have a cat, Whisky. He's 14, a spoiled diva, and I love him to death.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind?
Always had cats. Cuddles, Jasper, Jazmine, Sheera, Falki, and Whisky. I also had a dog named Cooper, a german shepard/chow/retreiver mix.
How do you name your animals?
Whisky's real name is Whiskers (his name when we got him), but he got caught drinking from my mom's rum and coke once and she nicknamed him Whisky. Now that's all he answers to.

Jazmine was named after Princess Jasmine from Aladdin. Falki is actually Falkora, after Falkor from the NeverEnding Story. Sheera was a shortened and modified version of Bagheera (SP?) from the Jungle Book.

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound?
Yes, Sheera. And she sucked. She ran away and I was happy to see her go.

For good measure, my baby, Whisky:

Awww, congrats on the puppy!  What type?

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds? Three black cats, two American shorthair and one Bengal-mix, and one American shorthaired guinea pig.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind? All cats until I was 13, then we got a 3-year-old Bassett hound/dachsund mix, who we had until he passed away 10 years later.  My parents have only had cats since.

How do you name your animals? We only name them "people" names...try names out until they fit.

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound? My cats were strays.  FI got his cat from the MSPCA in Massachusetts -- does that count?

I'm getting my puppy today....SO Yay! I love puppies!

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds? Yes, an orange tabby (he is 2 years old) and a dog (he is 1 year old), he is a boxer/beagle/German shepherd mix.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind?Yes, a cat (black & white tuxedo) and a dog (Shetland sheepdog).

How do you name your animals? The cat (Leo), because he looks like a lion, which is the astrological symbol for Leo, which I am. The dog (Dakota) because my H was born in North Dakota and we thought it was a cool name.

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound? Not technically. The cat was free from a family who rescued a stray and then had a litter and the dog we found on petfinder.com was with a foster family a few hours away. He was never actually in the pound.

Yay for Stina and the puppy!!!

Do you have any pets?Yes, two dogs. Buddy is an Austrian shorthair pincher (found in a parking garage as a puppy). Koozie is a black lab (from the humane society as a puppy). I'm a huge animal person and will always have pets!

Pets as a kid?Yes, I grew up on a farm. We had cows but I actually hand fed and walked around in the pasture with the bull (Henry) when I was little. I had a goat named Joseph. I had three Eskimo spitz (Snowball, Lassie, and Snowking), a dachshund (penny), and a mutt (Sandy). I had around 50 cats so I won't list all the names; my favorites were critter, blacke, callie, sabrina, and cootie. EDIT: I forgot that I also had a white mouse named Pinky.

How do you name your animals? When I was little it was from TV (Lassie) or because of the color (blacke, callie). Now it is whatever comes to mind. Our next dog (we are planning for a pup around Christmas) will be names Kimber.

Have I gotten an animal from the pound? No, Koozie was adopted from the pound by my FI right before we meet. I usually take in dogs that people can't keep or if I find them. I will always get my dog from a pound over a breeder though. I just haven't stepped foot in a pound because it is too hard for me to resist all the pups and I get really depressed thinking about them being left in the cages when I can't take all of them.

    Congrats on the new addition!
Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds?  Two cats

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind?  Yes, I had three cats and two dogs when I was a kid.  Also in highschool I had a turtle.

How do you name your animals?  FI named Dewey (after his favorite drink mountain dew) and I named Pumpkin (I love all things pumpkin, plus he's an orange tabby).

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound?  Yes.  Our cats are from a local animal shelter.  My dad's two dogs are also from shelters.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds? We have a little kitty cat, she's a Siamese mix.
Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind?Mostly dogs.  We had a couple of cats that me and my sister brought home but they only stayed for a couple of weeks because my mom's not a cat person.
How do you name your animals? My current cat is Suki after a book that I loved when I was about 3.  The others, I have no idea.  I don't think I was a part of the decision making.
Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound?Suki's from an animal rescue.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds? Lavern and Shirley are guinea pigs.  Noppy is a weiner dog/terrier mix.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind? Whimpy was a cat, Willy was a hampter, Gopher was a lab mix, and Odie is a cat.  also lots of fish, including a goldfish who lived so long he turned silver.

How do you name your animals? Odie b/c we found him at Office Depot.  Lavern and Shirley because I wanted a pair, and they're girls; next time I want guinea pigs with the craxy fur, and they'll be Einstein and Oppenheimer, regardless of gender.  Names we're planning on using in the future are names of Civil War heros and opera characters.  Cheeses are also an option.

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound? Yes, Gopher came from the pound.  Noopy came from an independent rescue.  Whimpy came from a family barn.  The rodents and fish came from pet stores.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind?
Fish, mice, a rabbit, and when I was about 16 we got a puppy
How do you name your animals?
My cat's name is Pal because my dad uses "pal" as a term of endearment to me. I was taking the cat home and he was crying and I kept saying, "it's O.K., pal, don't cry" and it stuck.
Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound?
The rabbit was from the older brother of one of my mom's students, who was giving bunnies away. The dog was from a rescue group. The cat was from MH's coworker, who found him on the streets and was trying to find a home for him. So while all of my pets were adopted, I never went to a pound to pick them out.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds? I've got an absolutely wonderful dog named Lucy who's a Cocker Spaniel :-D

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind? We had a cat for a little while when I was 4, other than that no pets. My parents never let me get a dog when I was a kid :-/

How do you name your animals? Lucy came with her name from the rescue :-)

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound? If a rescue is the same as a pound, then yes.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds? We have two cats.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind? Yes, from about the age of 8 or 9 we have had pets.  Only cats and dogs (well, a couple of goldfish too.)

How do you name your animals? We pick something that means something to us or something that seems to fit the animal.  H and I adopted two cats last fall and decided that he would get to name one, and I would name one.  He named one Tallica (after Metallica, his favorite band), and I named the other one Malu (after Troy Polamalu who plays for the Steelers - my favorite football team.)

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound? Yes, my mom's most recent cat and dog (which we adopted my senior year in high school) are shelter animals, and the cats H and I adopted last fall are from a shelter.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds?  My ancient cat Kiki.  He's got to be at least 17, probably older.  We think he's having problems with his teeth because he's not really touching his dry food, but he goes nuts over the gooshy food.  So now it looks like it's going to be gooshy food all the time now.  Spoiled bastard.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind?  We've had the aforementioned cat since I was in grade school.  (He lived with my mom while I was in college.)  We usually had a full fish tank, and we had two dogs at all times in the yard.  My younger sister has a bunny that she got in junior high.

How do you name your animals?  More or less at random.  Kiki was so named because my younger sister couldn't quite pronounce "here kitty kitty," so "here kiki kiki" was the closest she could get, and it stuck.

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound?  Our dogs always came from the pound, and once the old man is gone, we'll probably get a kitten from a shelter or the pound.  Kiki was a stray who was going around to most of the houses in the neighborhood, but we were the ones to adopt him.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds?

We have 2 cats, Mickey and Sweeney. I'm trying to convince FI to get another kitten. lol

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind?

I had a couple of cats when I was really young but when I moved in with my grandparents I couldn't have any pets so we got rid of them. :-(

How do you name your animals?

Any name I like really. Mickey was FI's cat and he inherited him from his brother so I'm not quite sure how he came to be named. Sweeney came to be named from my love of the musical and movie Sweeney Todd. Yes I'm a dork. :-)

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound?

FI and I got Sweeney from a local no kill shelter. I know it might not be as good as a kill shelter, which is what we originally wanted, but we were unsuccessfull with that.

randikins, the way I see it, when I adopt from a no-kill shelter, they then have room to go out and save animals from kill shelters.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds?
We are pet-less, unless you count the imaginary turtle DH lets me pretend lives in our kitchen sink. We're allowed to have pets in our condo, but we don't really have a backyard or a lot of space inside, and neither of us are home a lot during the day, so we don't think now is the best time for a puppy or kitty.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind?
I've always had pets growing up  ... we pretty much had everything. At one point we had 7 dogs, 4 cats, 1 bird, 2 hamsters and a full fish tank
How do you name your animals?
My mom always insists on giving pets people names, "because they are members of the family, and you wouldn't name your child Mr. Kittykins". Usually everything is name-less for the first couple of days, and we just kept throwing things around until something stuck. I kind of like the logic, so I'll probably do the same thing when we start getting pets of our own.

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound?
Most of our cats were some type of "rescue". One came from the pound, another came from Pet Smart's rescue program. There were 2 that somebody was giving away outside of Wal Mart. And their newest was found behind a dumpster-he was just a baby and his mother was dead, it was so sad.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kinds? FI and I have two cats.

Did you have pets as a kid? If so, what kind? I grew up on a farm--we had goats, sheep, donkeys, geese, two rabbits, and then cats and a dog.

How do you name your animals? No special way...our cat is named Callie because she's a Calico (really original), and we have Minnie, which we say is short for Minuit (midnight in French) because she's black.

Have you ever gotten an animal from the pound? Minnie is from a shelter, and we found Callie as a stray in a barn.
