"Tracksuit"

I'm having difficulty with opening my other post.

After seeing that lot of you hate tracksuits, I got a little concerned. I talked to my fiance and he looked at my post and thinks that you all have been misled by my "name". He said that what I'm looking at getting for my bridesmaids are more of a lounge wear rather than a tracksuit.

So here's what I'm talking about:

Now what do you guys think? I'll give them to my bridesmaids in their favorite color, plain, no embroidery.

That's exactly what I thought it was. No one I know would ever wear that.
  • For some reason I can't see all of the post. Are these a present? I like the terry cloth and anything for vic sec's. I'm just not big on the track suits that have Bride/Bridesmaids printed on them.

  • The picture does not change my answer. A track suit is a track suit. For me, they will always be trashy and associated with Paris Hilton....and ditto whoever said it yesterday. If you're not stick thin, you look bad in a track suit.

But if your girls will love it, get it. At least we got you to do THEIR favorite colors.

    This.

I'd open the gift and think "Oh Goody.  You got me sweatpants." And they would disappear into the laundry monster in our house, never to be seen again.  Well, probably not, since VS doesn't carry my size to begin with.

  • That is exactly what I envisioned- I didn't think it would say "Nike" and have stripes down the leg.

  • I like the sweatpants, but I'm the type that switches from jeans to sweatpants the moment I walk in the door and not back into jeans until 2 minutes before I walk back out the door.  Not a fan of the tracksuit as a whole though.
  • Terry and Velour make me want to throw up a little.

The only somewhat ok color there is black.  And seriously, $30- spend it on something else they will like much better.

  • Haha, I didn't think it was going to be an 80s windbreaker type tracksuit - I figured it was something along these lines, especially after you clarified and said you were getting Juicy tracksuits. Again, I don't really wear them, but I have friends who do, so it's a fine gift now that you've clarified that yours like them and that you're not going to put their names on them/make them in your colors.
  • okay, i dont want to do the typical boring bridesmaids gift that i see everywhere...we all get the same stuff every weddings. makeup case, necklaces, etc. i'll think of something else.
  • Question OP, why get everyone the same thing?

  • I have a thing like that that I'll wear back and forth to the gym when it's cold out.  I got it for $40 at target.  But like all of my sweats and lounge clothes, it's just not something someone else could really pick out for me.  And I definitely wouldn't want to wear something like that in any pictures or getting ready.

BTW, when you make a post with a big link, it screws up the formatting.  In the future, if you want to post a link like that, get a tinyurl so that your post will all be visible.
  • Just think of each girl individually. Don't get them wedding presents....meaning gifts that they'll use for the wedding...this means hair, makeup, jewelry, manicures, etc. What do they each like?

Does Jane like books? Does Anna love a band that's coming to town soon? Or maybe she'll love that new cd that you spotted. And what about Cathy? Does Cathy like cooking? Oooh, maybe something from williams sonoma.

  • Stina - I thought at first you asked if Jane liked Boobs.  That could make for a fun BM gift.

  • I would wear it for you, but not ever again. My body just doesn't look right in those. Plus, i like my athletic wear to be functional as well. I couldn't work out in that.

BUT, if this is a wardrobe staple for your BMs and are popular in your circle, then by all means get them one in their fave color.

  • thanks stina for great advice.

    MyNameIsNOt: Thanks for the info.
  • I have my bp gifts in my married bio. None of the gifts were for the wedding and were VERY specific to each personal individual.

There's another reg on here that got one of her girls a sword. And another girl a cookbook....so there you go.

  • I like the hoodie. Most girls I know would wear a hoodie like that, over jeans or black yoga pants.

I don't know many girls who'd wear the suit as a whole, though. But if your BMs would like it, then go for it.

Ditto PPs, don't get them all the exact same thing (unless you happen to find something that you are sure they will all love). And don't worry about being "unique." Worry about getting them each something they will love.

    OMG! I read that too!

  • Honestly, I'd probably put the hoodie into circulation if it were in a decent color (the grey and the navy aren't too bad), but I'd feel silly wearing the whole suit.

You really don't have to get your girls all the same thing, you know.  If they all share a common interest, perhaps you can get them all something along the same lines (mine all like to read, so they're all getting nice books), but your gifts can certainly be as unique and individual as they are.  Maybe you can scope out eBay, where your $30 will go a lot farther.  That's where I got my bridesmaid gifts.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • The link is exactly what I was imagining and it doesn't change my answer.

I still think you should shop for the girls as friends first and bridesmaids second.  This means that you don't necessarily get them all the same thing, but shop for them each as individuals, like it was Christmas or their birthday.

I still think that if they all like track suits, you can get these, IN ADDITION to their personal gift.
  • I knew what it was too.  It totally depends on whether your friends would like it.  You know them, we don't.
  • You know them but maybe lululemon-type yoga pants might be more useful and cuter? My favourite colour is red, but there's no way I'd ever wear a head-to-toe red tracksuit!
