Issues with bridesmaid dresses.

I will be having 6 bridesmaids in my wedding. I have been looking for bridesmaid dresses for awhile and I finally found one that I absolutely loved. I loved it so much I decided to change the color of my dresses because it didn't come in the color that I orginally wanted. Almost all of my bridesmaids range in sizes from 0-4. One of my sisters is a size 18 and I have really had troubles finding something that will fit her nicely and that she feels comfortable in. When we go and try dresses on she isn't able to try any of them on because they don't come in sizes that would allow her too. The dress that I chose is not tightly fitted. Does anyone have any advice about a situation like this or has anyone had the same problem?

Have you asked HER if she's comfortable wearing it? Not in a group, ask her in private. Also, ask her what types of dresses she normally wears. That may give you an idea as to what types of dresses her body looks good in. If you really want everyone to feel uber comfortable, it may be a good idea to give everyone the freedom of picking their own Bill Levkoff knee length dress in the color you like. This way, she can get something with straps or a forgiving mid section....I think it's a nice dress, but being extremely busty as I am, I might have a problem wearing it for modesty reasons.

Also, I wouldn't start looking for dresses until at least November of 2010. Your wedding isn't until July of 2011 and your girls will get burnt out on wedding talk if you keep asking them about dresses. BMS aren't really needed for anything until 6 months out anyway. Styles change as well as colors and so do body types. One of your bms may get pregnant and not like the dress style. I would wait.

Ditto.  See if this is still your dream dress in 6 months (which I bet it won't be).  Then talk to your BM to see if she'd feel comfortable wearing it.  Don't assume this sort of thing one way or another.

But seriously, wait.  When I first got engaged I immediately found a dress I loved.  Then I saw it in person and the color was really different than it looked online.  So I found another one I really liked.  Then 6 months later the BMs and I went shopping and it looked horrible on them.  We then found a totally different dress in a totally different color that I absolutely loved and am so glad we went with but never would have considered had I insisted on going with the first dress I fell in love with online.

Ditto PPs on waiting to order. 

When you do go, take a trip to David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo to try on dress styles.  Even if you don't plan on ordering from them, a lot of bridal lines have dresses in similar cuts and your BMs can see what flatters them and what doesn't.  David's and Alfred Angelo both carry their sample dresses in a variety of sizes from super tiny to plus size so that everyone can try on dresses.

The bridal shop will measure your BMs when they order.  You'd be guessing at sizes for the 0-4 girls too as the size 10-12 samples will probably be pretty big on them.

Ditto on waiting.  If your wedding is over a year away, give it PLENTY of time before you start looking at dresses.  There is no way I'd commit to any dress or size for a wedding that's over a year away at this point in my life - and that's not an insult to the bride.  It's saying that I don't want to inconvenience her further if anything in my life changes and I look like I just ate a balloon.

Agree with the PPs. Also, no do not order her a random size and have it altered. When you go to a bridal salon that carries Bill Levkoff, they will  measure each person and tell you what size you are based on the measurements.
