Shower Gift from Bridemaids

Does anyone think it is normal for the bridal party to give just the actual shower as the gift? I just wasn't sure and so I wanted to ask people on here.

Thanks.

Re: Shower Gift from Bridemaids

  • If that's all they can afford, sure.  It isn't nice to complain that people aren't giving you enough presents.  Showers aren't free.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Ditto aerin. If they can't afford it, then yes it should count as their gift. Then again, bms do so much for the wedding like attending parties, throwing parties, buying the dress, buying a wedding gift, hair, makeup, etc....so I wouldn't mind if they skipped a shower gift.

  • On the occasions when I've co-hosted the shower, I haven't bought a separate gift.  I probably would have, but it was always hard enough on the budget to help with the party.
  • Yeah I agree with all of you. Some people told me that it was a little odd, but I thought that the shower was so perfect and I know that it cost a lot to throw together, that I was fine with it. I think my girls went out of their way for me and I know they will for the bachlorette too!! :)
  • Either shower + gift or shower AS gift is normal, depending on the circs of the wedding party member.
  • I'm cool with the shower being the gift. They are feeding other people and providing games, etc so that the bride can get presents. To give another gift is just generous.

  • At most showers the hosts give a gift - but it's also often on the smaller side.

HOWEVER, if that's gift, it's OK too.
  • I don't see anything odd about the shower itself being a gift.  Throwing a shower is a lot of work!  If the host wishes to give an additional gift, I think it's very generous, but I certainly wouldn't expect it.

  • I got shower gifts from the people who threw my shower, but I certainly didn't expect them.  I don't think it's weird either way--some people will give a gift in addition, others won't.
