Dont pick wp too early

Just words of advice to any newly engaged knotties... don't pick your wp too early... you may have regrets. One of mine is all about the drama, I regret it completly but will just have to deal.

Re: Dont pick wp too early

  • Thanks Grozikn, I was about to pick my wedding party early, but because of your post, I'm going to rethink!  Whew.
  • We got engaged last month and are getting married Sept 2014. We both have our wedding parties in mind, but I have no officially asked my girls yet. I've told my sister I want her and my other sister there - but I mean, they're not friends, they're sisters and they will always be there. Anyone else I want by my side can wait. My fiance has told his two best friends they'll be there too, but they've been best friends for over 10 years!

  • All sarcasm aside... I do think ppl make that mistake pretty often. You get really excited and want to start with plans. I am definitely limiting her involvement. We already picked the dresses but won't worry about including her in some other details...

  • I am not getting married until march 2014 and I already have my wedding party picked out. The thing is that everyone - except 1 girl - I've known for at least 10 years and we have never had any falling outs. The only thing I'm worried about is one of the girls might be moving to florida this fall and I don't know if I'll beable to afford another plane ticket. I do agree that in normal situations don't pick out your WP until closer to your wedding.

  • Maybe you could talk to her about it before she moves... She may understand or offer to buy her own ticket. :)

  • Since when does the bridal party have their travel expenses paid for? Or am I out of the loop on this?

  • i picked mine, and my wedding isnt until 2014,however theyre all mature women,
  • I wouldn't be paying for plane tickets BUT my MOH is my sister and my best friend of 20 years is one my bridesmaid - both live in florida. They don't have a ton of money and I planned this into my budget. As far as my other friend who is planning on moving to florida Idk how it will work out, I guess I'll just have to wait and see. luckily I have enough time so that hopefully by the time it comes to order a dress and figure everything out I'll know if she's moving or not.

  • I completely agree on not choosing the wedding party early. I won't be getting married until October 2014 but my fiance and I have decided we want more family than friends in our wedding party. Our families are tight knit so it made it easy for us to choose family members and one friend for each side. He has two brothers and a brother in law, and I have two stepsisters and I am very close with his sister and sister in law. My advice would be to look at family first before going the friend route; I am an only child biologically but I was blessed with siblings through marriage so that made it easy. Family is forever :)
  • In addition to this, I have also recieved advice to keep the number of bridesmaids to a minimum, because you can always add but can never subtract.  This advice came from a coworker who started with 4 bridesmaids but ended up with 8!!  I am not sure the details of why or how this happened, but I know there was a lot of drama involved!

I started out with 3, my two sisters are both my maids of honor (I'm close to both, so I knew that picking only one of them would cause drama in itself) and my FI's sister is a bridesmaid.  Then just this weekend, 6 months after engagement but still 18 months before the wedding, I finally asked my best friend to be a bridesmaid as well.  I knew I wanted to include her ever since I got engaged, but I waited just to be very very certain.  So now there are 4.  And I am stopping there.
