Mom as MOH?

My mom got remarried when I was in middle school, and I was her maid of honor. Now I'm getting married... would it be rude if I didn't ask her to be the Maid of honor for my wedding? I'd really like my best friend to be the maid of honor, but at the same time, I dont' want to hurt my mom's feelings. Would it be better to just ask my mom to be the maid of honor and just have my friend be a bridesmaid?

Frankly, I think MOB is an honor of itself and it is kind of weird to have your mom be in the WP. But whatever floats your boat. It sounds like you don't want her to be your MOH, so don't ask.

As MOB she'll still get seated last, as per tradition if you choose to do that. You can give her a corsage or flower either before or during the ceremony.

It won't hurt your mom's feelings. It is more honorable to have her as MOB. Have your friend by MOH.

I've been MOB and MOG.  To be 100% honest, I'd MUCH rather be MOB than MOH.  There was little that's been more wonderful for me than to watch my DD's wedding. 

I can almost completely promise you that your mom won't be expecting to be asked to be MOH.  WPs are NOT tit for tat.  You don't have to reciprocate on WP invitations, anyway.

Another MOB, here. I agree that your mom is probably not expecting you to ask her to be MOH. Ask your best friend to be MOH and let your mom enjoy her role as MOB. It's really nice that you are so considerate of your moms feelings.
