WPBP of the day

What's a wedding fad that you don't like?

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it?

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye?

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?

Wedding fad I don't like?  Monograms everywhere

Wedding fad I wish I would have had?  Colored shoes...pink, red, blue, purple, etc. That isn't common here so my family and friends thought I was crazy. Now I have a pair of ivory shoes that i'm certain I will only wear once.

Have you been to a wedding with more than 14 WP members?  I'm sure I have but I don't count how many BMs and GMs there are. I'm usually paying attention to more important things...like the Bride and Groom.

Having kids in the wedding?  He!! NO! I'm not big on kids. They aren't even invited to the wedding or reception. It's like when people say no dogs in the wedding because they will cause things to go wrong.

    I second monograms!

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it?
Nothing that I can think of, I'm planning on nixing a lot of the trivial stuff anyway.

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye?
No, but a friend of my sister's recently had 11 BMs, 11 GMs, 3 FGs and 3 RBs in his wedding

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?
    Nope.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like?
    Monograms, slide shows
    EDIT: Mermaid dresses

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it?
I didn't do anything that was a fad - unless heavy apps instead of a sit down meal is considered a fad now.
    EDIT: Signature cocktail

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye?
I was in two of these. B&G asked every sibling and friend to be in WP.  They were young though. It seems that the older you get the more you realize the over the top things are just silly.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?
    Hell. No!!!
I think it was the movie Stepmom where the dying mom tells her daughter to not have a flower girl or ring bearer when she gets married because all they'll do is ruin it.  My mom was sitting next to me and said, "That's the truth.  Don't do it."  Having been to several weddings with a FG or RB, there was only one that didn't result in a total breakdown at some point - usually walking down the scary aisle.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like? Flip flops for the guests. I just think it's a total waste of money - I either wear shoes I can dance in all night, bring my own flip flops or take my shoes off. I don't need crappy flip flops in random sizes, I don't get it at all.

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it? We liked the idea of doing an ice cream cart after dinner, and in general I think little extras like candy bars are fun, but in the end we felt like we'd have way too much food (and we were right, people were stuffed with the dessert and cake!)

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye? Nope. I probably would at first, but it'd be something I noticed, thought was silly, and then moved on...I wouldn't think about it all night.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding? No. I don't think there's anything wrong with including one or two children if you're close to them, but we didn't have anyone we particularly wanted.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like? Chucks for the guys in the WP (I think it was cute once but it's really overdone now), people trying too hard to make EVERYTHING vintage.  I love Ruffled.com, but I feel like people who use too many "vintage" props are just trying too hard.

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it? Dyed crinoline.  I wish I could do it, but it's an unnecessary expense and I'm not sure my dress needs it.

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye? No, thank God.  I can't imagine.  Yeah, I definitely would side-eye it.  That's unnecessary.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding? No.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like?
Child attendants being pulled down the aisle in a wagon.

Suz - we had a slideshow at our reception.  I actually enjoy slideshows at people's weddings (as long as that are not terribly long, and I'm not forced to watch them)  Our dinner wasn't ready on time so they showed the slideshow during that time and guests were free to mingle, go to the bar, whatever.  We didn't force anyone to watch the slideshow.  So in that respect, I like them. :)

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it?
I wanted to do a candy bar, but I just ran out of time to put one together.

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye?
Yes.  One of my friends got married a couple of years ago and I think they each had 8 or 9 attendants.  The Groom was one of 8 siblings so all of the siblings were in the BP, plus cousins and friends.  I really didn't give it a side eye.  They are the people that were most important to them.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?
No children in our wedding.  We just didn't small children that we are close to.  Our nephew was less than a year old at our wedding so that wasn't happening.

Suz, I have no problem with a slideshow at the RD - the RD's usually people you're closer to anyway, right? I say let your mom have this one, it'll be fine.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like? I really hate this recent out break of  "Absolutely every single detail has to reflect our personalities in some way down to the napkins having a thread count of 453 because we've been together for 4 years and our favorite tv show ran for 53 episodes". Seriously. Not everything has to "mean" something deeper than "We liked this, so we picked it". I'm living proof that you don't have to care about 95% of the details and can still have a wedding that "reflects your personalities".

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it?  I wish we'd had the money to do some sort of "extra" desert like a candy bar or a chocolate fountain or something ... but at the time it would have cost at least an extra $500 and we couldn't justify spending that kind of money.

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye? Pretty much unless you're like the Duggar Family and you have a ton of siblings that you included, I'm going to side-eye a large WP. And if the sides are even, I'm going to assume 1 person asked their 10 closest friends and the other just started asking anybody they knew to fill spots.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?
We had DH's nephew as our RB ... I really wasn't happy about it, and I still feel like we got "tricked". Basically, SIL and MIL gave DH a hard time saying "this is his only chance to be in somebody's wedding, you have to ask him" (Even though we'd already said "no kids") ... and then 2 weeks later it suddenly came out 2 of SIL's friends had "coincidentlly" asked him to be the RB in their weddings ... after we'd asked, of course.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding? Apparently I am the only one who is having kids in their wedding...I love kids, and I'm not overly concerned with them "ruining" my wedding...it's an outdoor wedding at a park, not a fancy country club...

Emily - yeah I told her at the rehearsal dinner only. She really wanted to stop the reception, have everyone sit down, and watch a slide show. Fi and I nixed that real quick! It won't be that bad. I know she wants it and she hasn't really made that many demands regarding the wedding. Along the lines of what Frogurt said though, people will be asked to sit down and watch the slide show play.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like?  Being introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Hisfirst Hislast.  It just grates.

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it?  I'm not sure yet, since we haven't worked out all the details.  Possibly a dyed crinoline.  I'm not sure that it will work with my dress, though I think they're really cute.

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye?  I'm sure I have, but I never really count the members of the WP in real life.  And it would be pretty hypocritical of me to give the side-eye, since we're going to have 14.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?  Yes - we have 5 nieces and nephews that we just can't imagine getting married without.  My sister is also due 5 months before the wedding and is expecting the baby to be in the wedding.  She brings it up every single time my wedding comes up at all.  I'm not crazy about having a BABY in the WP, but I'll probably just say "Fine, put hir in an outfit, have someone carry hir down the aisle, whatever" to avoid drama.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like?  Birdcage veils.  Sometimes they look good if you have a vintage thing going but on a lot of people I just don't think they work.

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it?  We aren't having it but the candy buffets look fun and yummy.

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye?  I haven't been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members, but I'd definitely give the side eye if I went to a wedding that had that many peeps in it.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?  Yes, we are having a flower girl (FI's niece who is 8).

What's a wedding fad that you don't like?  Pickup skirts.  I think they are this generations ruffled tuxes.  Ditto Meg on the "Everything must MEAN something, and if I used a detail somewhere it must be tied in with EVERYTHING else."  I believe I told someone a while back that no one is interested in deciphering your life stories from the linen colors.  Food and booze, people.

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it?  Signature cocktail, photo booth, candy bar.  I still wish we'd gone for the signature cocktail, but I didn't alter our catering contract in time.

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye?  I don't tend to count heads, but if it's more than can comfortably fit up front, I think I'd definitely have the impression of, "Holy shiit, that's a lot of people!"

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?  No way.  The only two kids in the family were both under a year, so there was never a question of them being involved.  They got dressed up cute and we got a few good pictures of both girls.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like? I really don't like the kid in a wagon being pulled by another kid with a sign that says, "Here comes the bride." Really? The bride is going to walk down the aisle? No way! I would have never known that if you hadn't had that sign!

What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it? A photobooth. I think they're really fun, but we weren't able to find one in our area for less than $2,000 (gulp!).

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye? Nope. I don't really side-eye huge WP though. I like parades.

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding?  No. We considered having my nephew as a ring bearer, and I love the kid, but he is a total terror. In the end, no one really felt like dealing with the unpredictability of a kid at a wedding.

Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye? I haven't been to one but last year my wedding planning planned a wedding with a total of 26 BP members. It was crazy! I saw the pictures

Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding? We are having a FG. FI has a 4 year old niece and I want her to feel included. Also my niece, who is going to be 11 is a BM in my wedding.

You'd be able to tell tons about us from our linen colors.  Tons, I tell you.  It really was a painful and carefully plotted decision.

Catering meeting, with linen swatch board in front of us...
    Me: Choose colors!
DH: What colors do you like?
Me: I like colors.  I don't care.  Choose colors.
DH: I don't want to choose colors you don't like!
Me: Okay, these are ugly. (covers 5 swatches, 55 colors remain uncovered)
DH: I like aqua... and maybe lilac.
Me: 'kay. So half and half?
DH: I don't know, is purple and blue going to be too girly for me?
Me: Probably.  One inside and the other outside?
DH: I want aqua for guest tables and lilac for food tables.

The end.  And there you have it, lilac and aqua linens meant... well, that we don't hate lilac and aqua?

Of course, we also had two tastings for the cocktails on the bar menu (one for gin/whiskey/bourbon cocktails, and a siblings party of cocktail tasting for vodka/rum).  And did tastings at several local wineries to choose our 20 varieties of wine.  So there's the food and booze for ya.

What's a wedding fad that you don't like?  chocolate fountains,  pick up skirts, flip flops, more than 2 of each child attendants.
What's a wedding fad that you love and didn't have it/are not going to have it? Photo booth. We wanted to stay within a budget and while we could have afforded it, it was just another expense.
Have you ever been to a wedding that had more than 14 BP members? If so, did you give a side eye? I was in a wedding that had 13! So close. I DO side eye people that have that many people up there....She had 4 flower girls (ages 1,2,3, and 4). Only the 4 year old made it down the aisle.
Are you you planning on having/did you have children in your wedding? We had 2 fgs and 1 rb. We did it mainly because we did have children in our family that were very close to us. Otherwise, I would've skipped them.

Stina, how can you hate chocolate fountains?! We had one at a sorority formal I planned because the place had a minimum we needed to meet. Let me just tell you that 80 drunk sorority girls + equally drunk dates + chocolate fountain = a huge mess, but a very delicious mess. Luckily the chocolate came out of my satin dress :)
